Because regular terrain simply wasn’t dangerous enough.

Luminous Atmosfear adds eerie glowing effects to alien landscapes, cursed ruins and toxic wastelands. Under UV light it looks absolutely sinister - ideal for horror boards, undead realms and sci-fi laboratories where the scientists definitely ignored safety protocols.

Perfect for atmospheric basing and terrain pieces that genuinely stand out on the tabletop.

Operation Finish Something Before Christmas is officially underway...

September means cooler evenings, longer sessions at the painting desk and the annual, wildly optimistic belief that this is finally the month when we finish an army before accidentally buying another one.

Inside September’s edition of the Moonhopper Games Bulletin:

Campaign Ideas: The Final Battle for Port Stanley, 1982. Mount Longdon, Two Sisters, Mount Harriet, Wireless Ridge and Mount Tumbledown, with ideas for recreating the final battles of the Falklands War on the tabletop.

September’s Wargaming News: including a deep-ish dive into Warhammer 40,000 11th Edition, the changing tournament scene, independent wargaming and the increasingly cosy relationship between traditional miniatures and 3D printing.

Our usual rundown of forthcoming shows and events.

New Releases: miniatures, scenery, magazines, forthcoming goodies and several perfectly legitimate reasons to say, “Well, I might as well add that to the order…”

Plus club nights, hobby ideas, new Moonhopper stock and the usual mixture of miniature warfare, questionable purchasing decisions and dice-related treachery.

Read it here: https://mailchi.mp/moonhopper-games/moonhopper-news-bulletin-september2026

If you enjoy it, share it with your gaming club, opponent, painting group or that mate who definitely doesn’t need another army.

And if you haven’t already, subscribe to the Moonhopper Games mailing list for the Bulletin every month, new releases, hobby inspiration, offers and 10% off your first order.

Breaking news: Dwarfs steal gold.

Again.

Pot of Gold is perfect for treasure carts, vault raids and highly suspicious dwarf business ventures.

Adds rich golden detail that screams: “This objective marker is definitely worth fighting over.”

We think they'll call this the Shrink's Mat Robbery...

We'll get our coats.

Nothing says “victory” quite like a battlefield still smouldering three days later. Enter Moonhopper Games Scorch Marks - the technical paint designed for carbon scoring, blast damage, burned armour plating and terrain that’s had an exceptionally bad afternoon.

For basing, stipple Scorch Marks around crater edges, tank wrecks or plasma impact zones to create scorched earth and ash-choked rubble. On vehicles and mechs, drybrush lightly around exhausts, gun barrels and engine vents for realistic heat staining and battle wear. For maximum “this sector is no longer tactically viable” realism, combine it with Base Black, Tank Green or Martian Dustbowl, then deepen shadows using Grey Day, Black Smoke and White Fade shading mediums before applying Scorch Marks as the final damage layer.

It also works beautifully with metallics like Sword Silver or Battle Bronze; because nothing complements polished armour quite like catastrophic thermal trauma.

Remember: if your sci-fi infantry still have eyebrows after the firefight, you probably haven’t used enough.

Behold! The noble hue of Moonhopper Games Base Violet: the colour of kings, sorcerers, suspiciously wealthy vampires, and at least three generals who absolutely insisted on being painted larger than life.

This richly pigmented base paint lays down beautifully over armour panels, robes, banners and arcane detailing, with excellent coverage for deep royal tones and bruised battlefield shadows alike. Thin it slightly for smooth layering, or apply heavily into recesses for dramatic contrast on cloaks and heraldry.

For basing, Base Violet makes wonderfully unnatural ground effects when paired with Hurdy Verdigris (MG2162) or crackled alien earth using technical paints such as Martian Dustbowl (MG2015) . Add a glaze from the Moonhopper Glaze range to enrich saturation, then edge-highlight with lighter tones for truly aristocratic depth.

Want decadent armour? Combine Base Violet with Moonhopper Metallics for rich enchanted steel, then finish with shading mediums to push those recesses darker than a tax collector’s soul.

A paint fit for emperors, necromancers, and anyone whose cavalry arrives fashionably late.

Mud. Roots. Suspicious movement under the ground. Perfect.

Burrowclumps is ideal for forests, woodland trails and fantasy terrain where something with too many teeth probably lives nearby. Fantastic for goblin warrens, jungle battlefields and overgrown ruins.

Easy to apply, deeply textured and wonderfully organic for natural-looking bases and terrain features.
