A Victorian walled garden on the Kent/East Sussex border. We are a flower farm and event space. We host seasonal fairs, markets and private hires.

The Dahlia’s are really getting into their stride now with most of our plants now in flower. (Cafe au Lait as ever, is late to the party.)

This year we’re growing just over 300 plants, all of which had been lifted and split from last year or are newly purchased. Part of the reason for lifting all our dahlia at the end last season was to be able to combine them all in one growing area. The result is that we now have 13 rows of 24 plants in one section of the garden with each row being colour coordinated.

Some new favourites this year include: Sweet Suzanne, Joel’s Favourite and Giovanni. I think I’d previously had a go at growing Miss Brandy without much success, but this year she’s a winner (and my current favourite.)

Our second Flea & Food Market of the year is happening next month.

We have been working very closely with Gina Portman to bring you what we consider the best in collectibles, curios, vintage stands, plus fabulous attic finds, huge bunches of flowers & tables piled high with local food & wine.

Lunch with Ben Tish

Join us at Water Lane Walled Garden on 27th September for a Mediterranean-inspired three-course lunch with acclaimed chef and food writer Ben Tish.
🌿
We’re delighted to welcome Ben to Water Lane, where he’ll be serving a seasonal, produce-led feast inspired by the flavours and traditions of the Mediterranean. Ben is widely respected as a leading voice in Mediterranean cooking, with his food shaped by years spent travelling and cooking across Europe, particularly Spain and Italy. His cooking places a strong emphasis on exceptional ingredients, seasonality and letting produce take centre stage.

Set within the historic Water Lane Walled Garden, lunch will be served in the beautiful Carnation Glasshouse, with guests seated at two long communal tables — the perfect setting for a long, leisurely afternoon of good food, wine and conversation.

Arrival is from 1pm, when guests can enjoy a welcome drink and nibbles, with lunch served from approximately 1.30pm.
🌿
Tickets are £59 per person, including service and a welcome drink.
🌿
Alongside the lunch, Walgate Wines will be offering a selection of wines by the glass and bottle, as well as a specially selected wine flight for £25.

Welcome Drink & Nibbles Focaccia Whipped cod’s roe, preserved lemon & celery Pickled beets & turnip tops

To Start Pumpkin, goat’s curd, hazelnuts & green sauce
Mains Middle White porchetta, sourdough & rosemary-stuffed apples

Crispy Pink Fir potatoes, sage & capers Steamed cavolo nero & kale Roast carrots, cream & tarragon

Cutting this week… Cosmos & Zinnia Spotlight 🌸🌼

As this dry weather continues, so much of the garden is struggling but the ever-resilient Cosmos and Zinnias are thriving.
