Knot Fish pots

This rope has been returned by the sea bed and collected at Porthtowan beaches in Cornwall. Washed on 60- safe. This pot has over 400-600 knots or stitches.

640,000 tonnes of fishing gear is lost at sea each year. Thank you to all ghost gear divers and volunteers who keep our coastlines, wrecks and sea beds clean.
—————————
How it works.. The mermaid basket, is tied at the entrance to Porthtowan beach. The local kids put string/rope/fishing gear inside, which is collected and washed. Currently 640,000 tonnes of ghost gear ( fishing nets, lobster pots etc) gets dumped into our oceans EACH YEAR. If a net gets torn, the Fishing boats have to pay to discard them into tips’, Often cutting huge nets off and dumping them back into the ocean. These nets continue to fish under water and roll over the sea bed causing reef damage until they get caught on a wreck or wash up. The bycatch ( fish accidentally caught by fishing boats ) is harsh with over 3,000 dolphins dumped overboard last year in bay of Biscay, drowned in nets. But some volunteers are doing phenomenally good things. www.fathomsfree.org are diving many sites in Cornwall Saving our marine wildlife. Or you can support www.seashepherd

Enjoy your purchase and thank you for saving our coastline and oceans.

Spring is in the air and steps as we meandered across Gwithian beach near Godrevey. Glorious day for the horses to gallop in the shallows and doggies to swim in the rock pools.

Inevitability we came across some half buried lobster pots and a large rope entangled with various other types of ghost gear and discarded fishing debris so trundled bsck up the steps with it all.

Lovely to see the beach here so clean and beautiful. Will post the horses galloping on .

Enjoy planting ocean awareness and happy beach cleaning all x
