Due consideration in bathroom design is something we're passionate about.
Does your designer give their all to understand and accommodate your needs and wishes? Can they explain every suggestion they have made?
Below is the summary we provided with this design for a ground floor ensuite:
Always do your best...
==========
Dear....
I have considered this shower room from the point of view of creating a space that can serve those with accessible needs and guests equally.
The wetroom floor gives provides unimpeded access into the showering area which also incorporates a tiled corner seat. This seat could be added later or the shower could be retro-fitted with a flip-down type. It does however, also serve as a raised footrest which is something we are incorporating more often into showers.
When seated, there is easy access to the shower handset and the storage nook. The shower wall outlet incorporates a retro-fitted shut-off valve which can be operated independently of the main thermostatic valve from the seated position. The main shower valve is operable form the dry end, and also by an assistant if required.
The shower wet wall has a flip panel to the end to widen access into the shower / WC, yet provide suitable splash prevention to the basin corner and central floor area. This also helps with transition from a seated position to the WC or shower seat if required.
The heated towel rail has been position for ease of access from the shower. A towel hanger is provided for hand-drying immediately next to the basin to prevent drips on the floor.
A short projection WC has been swapped with the basin position on the Architect’s drawing to provide better access to the shower and to present a nicer view upon entrance. Next to the WC is an open storage recess for a spare paper roll and a brush which sits behind a tiled, push-to-open door.
The basin provides a very good landing area around the bowl with a single drawer for storage below.
The full-width mirror has concealed lighting above and below as per your Architect’s specification. This mirror could be replaced with full-width storage cabinets or a combination of fixed mirrors and cabinets behind. I recall you asked for lots of storage but as this is a downstairs shower room, I wasn’t sure if it was crucial to this space. I can amend the drawings easily to show cabinets if required.
The décor wall tile is the one you saw in the studio and is balanced by a field tile of similar tone to the other walls. This field tile is also available in a 120x120 size with an anti-slip finish for the floor, which is in excess of HSE guidelines for bare foot, wetted use. This is especially important when the floor may be used by those with accessible needs.
The tones and forms used in this room are warm yet contemporary which I feel well reflects the architecture of your home.
