Being a short girl has its benefits when walking the !

This cool little gate section was fun for me, not so much for 6ft2 Dan 😂

A year ago today took us from Abbotsbury (a fair distance inland) to Ferrybridge.

Stay till the end of the video to see my place of the day!

We mainly followed a lake nature reserve behind the bank of Chesil Beach and didn't really see the sea much!

Detouring around military camps, through campsites and walking along the busy road to Ferrybridge. We had found a hostel on the island that was almost as cheap as a campsite and meant we had beds for the night! Turns out the room was literally bunk beds a sink and shower and just enough room to stand up between all of that 😂 with no windows! But it was the perfect location and price so no complaints really!

Have you ever walked on Chesil Beach?

If not, I wouldn't recommend it!

It's HARD work.

Some beautiful views on this day a year ago walking from Seatown to Abbotsbury on the South West Coast Path

Swipe to the end to see the best vending machine at the campsite we stayed at! Such a good idea!

Today's mini painting is of Eype Beach, a beautiful spot with a campsite right above it. It's actually where we stayed, but had to get a taxi back to Seatown to walk the stretch between them, due to the campsite not being open at Seatown.

A year ago today walking the entire South West Coast Path

Seaton -> Seatown

We said goodbye to Dan's Auntie & Uncle at Seaton and headed up over a golf course and into the undercliffs.

A bit like marmite, you'll either love or hate this section!

For us it was more hate! Have you ever walked the undercliffs between Seaton & Lyme Regis? What did you think?

After walking through Lyme, along the beach to Charmouth (we made sure to time it with a low enough tide), I even found some seaglass and had to be so selective to only pick up the most favourite bits that caught my eye, as bending over is hard with a big pack on! Swipe to have a look at my mini haul.

At Charmouth we were met by my grandparents and their friend and we had an ice-cream before walking up towards Golden Cap.

After a little way we said goodbye and continued to the top with beautiful views both ways. We were especially surprised by Seatown and this became my mini painting place of the day.

Walking down into Seatown, we met Dan's parents for dinner at the pub there (recommend!). We had planned on staying at Seatown, but the campsite wouldn't let you camp there. So we ended up getting a lift with Dan's parents to a campsite further on.

A lovely week filled with family visiting, thank you everyone!

Do you recognise any of these places?

Some mini paintings and the photos that inspired them.

From this past week a year ago during our hike of the entire South West Coast Path

We walked from:

Dartmouth -> Brixham (my cousin Thomas collected our bags to save us carrying them and then we met with my auntie Jackie and cousins Heather & Thomas for fish n chips for tea!)

Brixham -> Babbacombe (stayed in a very cheap hotel, but it had an outdoor swimming pool, sauna & whirlpool bath! Felt like luxury!)

Babbacombe -> Exmouth (joined by my mum Miriam and auntie Miranda from Teignmouth to Starcross, two ferry crossings today! Stayed at Dan's cousin Allans and Katies house & Katie cooked us the best chicken pie!)

Exmouth -> Sidmouth (stayed in the worst campsite ever, literally a sheep field with poo in. Had planned on staying for three nights to save on some bag carrying, but found an air BnB instead for our day off! Bit of an expensive and logistical nightmare this section!)

Sidmouth -> Seaton (got picked up at Seaton by Dan's auntie Chris and uncle Pat and taken to our lovely Airbnb. They then treated us to dinner at the pub down the road!)

Which brings us up to a year ago today, we had a day off in Seaton, enjoying a lie in, in a proper bed, had lunch with my dad Rod and sister Emily & Andrew. Then another lovely meal with Dan's auntie & uncle at a different pub.

Such a lovely section filled with lots of family helping out, we truly can't thank you all enough, we loved it! Thank you for being part of our journey and making it extra special.

Make a mini painting of the with me:

1 - Take your reference photo (this one is featuring the iconic acorn guiding our way)

2 - get your supplies

3 - sketch the rough outline and proportions (blue pencil of course)

4 - use the posca pens and water brush to add colour

5 - add details using the fineline

6 - remove the tape. Add details and sign

7 - add to stack in a mini bag in a mini box

8 - put the mini box in the supplies box and continue on your hike!

9 - get shouted at by a sheep 😅

A year ago yesterday we walked from Tor Cross back to Dartmouth after having a lovely day off and being spoilt by Lara & Dom and family.

Finishing with my favourite sorbet in Dartmouth!

Any guesses at the flavour?

Which is your favourite?

Thanks to I've started a 100 day project!

Seascape inspired of course, but I'm experimenting with different mediums and styles. Keeping it consistent with a standard size - ACEO. Have you heard of them before? It stands for Art, Cards, Editions and Originals. Which is basically an artist trading card that you can collect!

For me standardising them to a small size makes it more manageable to be able to keep up with doing this for 100 days!

Anyway here's the first 7 days!

1. Aerial coastline
2. Bubble seafoam
3. Blended seascape
4. Seashell drawing
5.Textured waves
6. Sunrise seascape
7. Inky reef

Which is your favourite?

Come spot some seals with me!

Wait until the end to see the seal dancing underwater!

Taken a year ago yesterday on our hike from Salcombe to Tor Cross. We were joined by our friends Lara & Dom for this stretch with Lara's mum Camilla kindly picking up our big packs so we didn't have to carry them!

We had some beautiful weather, spotted seals and dolphins! Thanks to Dom for the second part of this video, really captured the seals so well!

Went past a sign post for 168 miles to Poole (the finish line!).

This stretch is amazing, and there's lots of variety from coastguard lookouts, to lighthouses, beaches and even a pub!

Have you spotted seals around here?

A shorter day, Hope Cove to Salcombe.

Definitely an area to come back to in the sunshine! ☀️ Would love to do some more exploring down to some of the lower paths we somehow missed.

However the upside is we went past a great view point up by trigg point above Overbecks. Then we came down through a tropical garden and stopped for some lunch at the cafe there.

At South Sands we headed to our campsite for the night where Dan's auntie and uncle were pitched up and treated us to dinner and cider! So lovely and such a morale boost.

When we looked on a map though we realised we were only 2 miles away via road from our campsite the night before! But the definitely took a few more miles to do!

Which do you prefer? Hope Cove or Salcombe?

"Hit the metal bit on the end!" To cross the river at Bantham (my mini painting of the day), we had to ring a bell and wave at the other side of the river! Eventually managed to figure it out and got a ferry over the water. There are so many river crossings to navigate on the south coast, some only working at certain tides of times of the day.

A pretty area, but a lot busier. We saw surfers, crossed a long bridge, saw plenty of signs and found a campsite up a hill at Hope Cove. Unfortunately they didn't have a backpacker rate, so we had to pay the most expensive pitch yet, but we were too tired to go elsewhere!

The first photo is of Dan & I (Holly), at Hope Cove. Attempting to recreate a photo from 10+ years ago from the same spot!

Have you recreated photos from the past? We did one for Dan's parents a few years ago of Dan and his brother in poses from when they were kids! Super funny to make!
