Setting the tone with natural Laced Danish Cord seating. Involving the iconic designer, Hans J. Wegner from the mid-20th century (1950’s onwards). A very stylish set of Wishbone chairs using Laced Danish Cord in a natural colourway. A much harder, stiffer material to use than Unlaced. Quite challenging but none the less rewarding. Two schools of thought out on using Laced or Unlaced cord on Hans Wegner chairs.
With thanks to the for awarding me a bursary grant to develop my skill base further using Danish Cord in a variety of weaves with at the last year. Plus a nod to and to answered questions and sound advice.

Enjoying the Hans Wegner theme…
when creating work in Rattan Centre Cane and Danish Cord and of course continuing with rush chair seating.

Recently been given the opportunity at the end of 2025 and start of 2026 for two very different types of project involving the iconic designer, Hans J. Wegner from the mid-20th century (1950’s onwards). A design style that I very much adore.
A Rattan Centre Cane sewing basket for a Danish Mid Century oak and teak AT33 sewing table by Hans J. Wegner (for Andreas Tuck, circa 1960s) and the other - a very stylish set of Hans Wegner Wishbone chairs using Danish Cord.
Thanking and to my answered questions and sound advice. So reassuring and encouraging.
This post is for the Rattan sewing basket. Challenging and rewarding all at the same time. More to follow on the chairs!

Celebrating my craft…
of chair seating throughout the years…

with lots of different skills sets acquired over a long period of time, hard fought for and earned, a few wobbles along the way but all relevant to where I am today but still curious enough to continue with new things…

Love a corner…so many different patterns and weaves to make up the ‘continental’ style of corners. Also fascinating to see how the original corners were set up, every one a surprise. Some follow the ‘rules’ while others break the ‘rules’. At the end of the day you just have to weigh it all up and decide what’s best 🤗

A neat trio…
Arrived with seagrass seats but went back out in rush…
Sometimes you just know when a chair or stool comes to you in the wrong material. Part of my initial task is to have an honest conversation with the owner about what materials are right for the job, what works best for each piece of furniture and then it’s down to the aesthetics. Wonderful UK harvested rush was chosen, thanks to Linda Lemieux for the top quality bolts.

A tad out of my comfort zone on this one. Felt like three seats in one. Large, incredibly heavy and awkward to move around. Additional criteria was to not only match the existing pattern and alignments but also to match to a ‘twin’ planter chair (photo only) completed by another chair caner several years ago who had also attempted to solve best the alignment issues at the front rails and the very odd positioning of the holes. Much head scratching, re-thinking and re-doing of how it should be attempted. It may not satisfy the purists but hopefully has answered the brief as aesthetically pleasing and practical as possible. Pleased to see it returned home along with some newly rushed stools and chair. Lovely owners who really cared about the importance of continuing the heritage and craft of their chairs to the next generation of family. Afterall, chairs are for using!

Working through all my gorgeous rush bolts…
During some of the coldest days in recent days but so looking forward to the start and feel of Springtime. Continuing to create natural rush seating for all types of chairs, stools and furniture. Using the traditional method of hand twisting rushes together to form one continuous strand to weave with.
Thinking also about many of the descriptive terms used - weavers, butts and tips, doubles at the front, figures of eight, continental corners, a bridge, arrowhead, standard envelope and how they all become second nature and naturally instinctive to the work produced.

Started the year with a Sussex and ended the year with a pair of Sussex chairs! Lots more Sussex chairs inbetween plus lots of individually fantastic chairs and stools - rush, seagrass, lapping cane and centre cane, chair cane and cane webbing with so many unusual, quirky, poignant, interesting, happy stories attributed to each and every one of them. A big thank you to everyone for entrusting me with them all. Looking forward to next year…2025

Luxurious rush…
It’s all about rush. From old faded seagrass to luxurious rush. Just look at those colourways. So tactile, really pliant and silky, wonderful to work with and use.
As always, top quality rush produced from rush harvester and supplier Linda Lemieux.
One stool returning home to its family origins in Somerset and another back home, to continue its handmade heritage journey from past generations to next generation.
