In 1970 J&L Carpets opened their first shop in Ealing, very quickly the business grew and at that time opened up a second shop in West Drayton. During the 1970's the business was supplying and fitting carpets as well as selling beds. It was always known as a family business. The Company was managed by brothers Lawrence (who started the company in 1970) and Stewart. Both Lawrence and Stewart's sons
, James and Tim worked for the business as well. The business had thrived throughout these years primarily based in West Drayton UB7. The family share fond memories of their time in the shop on Yiewsley High Street and still keep in touch with many customers who have become friends over the years. In 2010 Lawrence retired some fourty years after starting the company. James had to change careers back in 2018 due to injuries to his back. Then in January 2020, Stewart and Tim did their final job under the name of J&L Carpets. Stewart retired at that point and Tim wanted to try a new career. October 2021, Tim (me) has now decided to pick back up his Stanley Knife and Carpet Stretcher and start the business again. Throughout my time away from the business I had never stopped receiving calls from old customers asking if I could still do their carpets. It was very difficult to turn people away and put them at risk of receiving a bad service elsewhere. It was a constant reminder that what my uncle started in 1970 had become a very important part of peoples lives. Our company always gave its customers a personal touch, we were not the most professional - If you noticed Stewart estimating on 3rd hand scraps of paper, sometimes old electric bills. However we were the most reliable. The future of the business will be based around the High Wycombe and Beaconsfield areas where I live, as well as Uxbridge, Hillingdon, West Drayton, Aylesbury, Maidenhead and Windsor, but I will still travel out of the area and work wherever is needed within reason. However in the past the job has taken us to Bournemouth and Devon and further afield on many occasions. I hope to hear from many old and new customers very soon. Stewart may even pop by to say hello,
Kind regards
