It's Diabetes Awareness Week this week: a cause VERY close to my heart as my 6 year old nephew was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes suddenly last year. It was an enormous adjustment and very steep learning curve for the entire family in order to ensure they managed this condition to the best of their ability to help my nephew to continue to thrive.
My brother and sister-in-law are fundraising to help ease the shock on future families. They are so close to reaching their target! I would love my marvellous followers to help them achieve their target during Diabetes Awareness Week!
Every year at Derbyshire Children's Hospital alone, about 75 families find out their child has type 1 diabetes. Often children receive this life-changing diagnosis during a medical emergency. We want to help the families of newly diagnosed children by fundraising to buy starter kits. We hope this will take some of the pressure off families reeling from discovering type 1 diabetes has found its way into their life. And we hope that children can get back to their (new) normal as soon as they can by getting out and about knowing they have items thoughtfully put together to make managing diabetes easier.
