I’ve finally finished this gorgeous vintage oak cocktail cabinet, and I’ve had such a lovely time working on it.
I wanted to keep as much of the beautiful original wood as possible (which I stripped) and give it a bit of an Art Deco feel with deep black and warm copper detailing.
And can we just talk about Jet Black from Guild Lane’s Jubilee range for a moment? I’m absolutely obsessed with this paint! It’s so lovely to work with, goes on beautifully and dries to this gorgeous soft, smooth finish with just the perfect amount of sheen. Honestly, it’s lush.
I’ve teamed it with Copper from Guild Lane’s GILD metallic range, which is another product I’m completely in love with. The richness of the copper against that black and the original oak is just such a lovely combination.
One of my favourite little details is the original decorative design on the front of the cabinet. I loved it so much that I copied the design onto paper, then painted it in black and copper to create my own decorative lining for the inside. I love being able to carry a detail through a piece like that.
And then there’s the copper velvet w**e storage, which I can’t take the credit for because that was Tony’s idea!
He came up with the clever idea of cutting old carpet tubes in half, which I then cover in gorgeous copper velvet for storing w**e bottles. So not only have we upcycled the cabinet, we’ve managed to upcycle some carpet tubes too!
Tony does come in handy sometimes!
I do love taking an old piece of furniture and giving it another chapter in its life, especially when I get to play with gorgeous paints along the way.
Anyway, she’s finished, she’s fabulous, and she’s now looking for a new home!
What do you think of the black and copper combination? I can’t seem to get enough of it at the moment.
