After upholstering an arm chair for a client they returned a few weeks later with a request to upholster a plantation chair with a similar sheepskin look in mind.

The chair originally was made with cane but this had been damaged over the years.

I removed the old cane from the chair and replaced it with webbing and built up the seat and back.

They were very thrilled with the end result. It's now got a completely new look and lease of life and looks stunning in the outdoor dome! Perfect for stargazing on the colder autumn nights.

Traditional drop arm sofa .

This is a little story of the latest project to come through the workshop.

Many days work spent on this piece.
From stripping the old fillings back to frame before rebuilding. dirt, dust, sweat but fortunately no tears!

The end result is a long lasting piece of traditional furniture and a happy customer.

Another busy week in the workshop this week.
After 5 days of restoring this drop arm sofa it's beginning to take shape and the fabric is out on the cutting table.

Traditional drop arm sofa in for a full restoration.

This drop arm sofa has been reupholstered a few times before with several quick 'make do and mend' repairs.

Work began by stripping out the sofa only to find the internal fillings and frame need much more work.
This is very common working on traditional furniture and only something you can really assess once you've start pulling away the layers of the previous upholsterers work.

On this occasion the client has been advised on the work needed to bring this piece of old furniture back to life and is happy for the work to carry on.
