We had a special guest at sewing class today. Ali .fabric.first.aider joined us & we had a good old catch up 🥰
She even matched my bins 🤣 the 1st pic reminded me of the Madonna inspired corsets they made on the Sewing Bee last week 🤣 Ali helped Jen sort out a neckline that had stretched out & cloned a top while we chatted.
It was lovely to have a natter & we talked about maybe organising another Gathering next year, what do you guys think 🤔

Come along for a relaxed, crafty evening and create your very own gorgeous ruffle wreath, choosing your own colours and adding all those autumnal and spooky touches. 🕷️🎃🍂

Free Pattern Friday

For this week’s free patterns I thought I’d focus on the Upcycle challenge from the GB Sewing Bee where contestants were asked to make stuffed animals from fleeces. I personally think this a more realistic & relatable way to upcycle clothing & give them a second life than some of the challenges I’ve seen!

🐙 There was a lot of love for Anna’s Octopus online - here’s a pattern from Quirkshop design for Henry the Octopus
🐢 I didn’t think Rebecca’s turtle got the credit it deserved. This pattern by Make It Love It is smaller but cute
🐷 I thought Adele’s pig was adorable ( I have a soft spot for pigs) & no idea how she found time to make clothes for it! I love these sleepy piggy cushions made from old hand towels
🐘 Heather’s Elephant had character I thought. These little cuties from Bustle & Sew are made from floral fabric, hence the name Flora
🐵 Beth’s monkey was inspired by her dad calling her a monkey when younger. These sock monkeys from Hello Sewing are so cute & a great use of the random odd socks we all have
🐢 Emma made a Stegosaurus, which I thought was inspired, This one by Wooly petals looks like an easy fun make with the kids
🧸 Finally Minnie made a bear, which I thought was really good given that she gave him moveable joints! There’s lots of free patterns for bears online including this one from HowJoyful, which I thought was really cute

I couldn’t be prouder of this lady!
Auds came to my Learn to Sew in A Day class with her friend in March this year & didn’t know how to thread up a machine & just look at what she has achieved 🤩
She has created full circle skirts, waistcoats, trousers, pussybow blouses, waistcoats, a memory bear & these 2 beautiful dresses.
Did she make mistakes, yes! Did she stay up late to finish a hem before attending an event the next day - yep!
But she has a vision & commitment & is ready to learn & is pretty damn fearless to get the outfit she wants.💪🏻
After attending her 1st sewing class she has had one to one sessions, with lots of laughs & she has been to the improvers classes too. We have collaborated with Katie Katie Davis to provide bespoke patterns & she has even created her own fabrics.
Her first circle skirt was featured on the cover of a magazine & Yesterday her she made it into the top 5 most stylish finalists at York races wearing her beautiful peacock print dress 🦚
Today we will be having another one to one session making a Chanel style jacket & tomorrow she is joining my Kimono workshop!
So if you’re feeling nervous about learning how to sew or starting your next project, just take inspiration from Auds & take that 1st step, after all what’s the worst that can happen? It’s just fabric, the seam ripper is your best friend, it’s all part of the learning process.
So pick your next project, even if it’s learning how to take up a hem or make a bag, I can show you how to take that next step but you have to start with that first step. I’ve got beginners classes starting in September & October & my Improvers classes are every Tuesday & Thursday mornings & Wednesday evenings. I’d love to see you there ✂️🪡🧵
