Early autumn or late summer colours? Which would you choose?

I've had a really busy couple of days setting up for the most beautiful wedding at Woolas Barn in Appleton Roebuck. With gorgeous autumn colours and textures, sunflowers and grasses, copper coloured leaves and my favourite smilax vine on the staircase. Can't wait to share the photos!

As well as pootling backwards and forwards to North Yorkshire, I've had a busy gift flower week with 90th birthday party table flowers, some gentle colours for a couple of thoughtful sympathy bouquets plus some lovely birthday and engagement gifts. And a monthly subscription delivery with the biggest and fanciest gladioli you have ever seen!

Feeling grateful for all your orders but also wishing my workshop would magically tidy itself as my legs are so knackered this evening. I'll close the door on it and tackle it tomorrow. Now for a large glass of something refreshing 😉

I think Instagram is having one of those moments where it shows my posts to X3 of my followers and zero non followers whilst also repeatedly telling me that I can get seen by more people if I just pay a gazillion pounds by 3pm tomorrow. It's a bit like being blackmailed and I'm sure it is happening on a massive scale to lots of small businesses struggling in the current economic climate. I can buy a blue tick or pay for a 'plus' service or reduce the annoying advertising if I put my hands in my deep, Yorkshire pockets.

Well, you know what Insta? I actually don't care anymore and you can surpress my posts all you like. I'm still going to post because I like sharing my photos and I like looking at the beautiful creativity shared by others. I'm still getting visibility on Facebook (until you break that too), still actively booking weddings and still making a decent living out of my flowers in spite of your damned algorithms. And at the end of the day, that's all that matters.

My loyal customers are still finding me and supporting me. For that I thank you from the bottom of my heart. To help me find new ones, perhaps you could recommend me to your friends and family so that I don't have to rely on the constantly changing hoops I have to jump through on here 🤣

I think the same goes for any small business you occasionally support. Even just a quick share or a review can make all the difference when huge tech has such a hold over our livelihoods.

It's nearly my birthday! To celebrate, I've got a sale on my small hatbox flowers. For some reason, I always end up with a surplus of the smallest in these boxes which come in a set of 3. Last count I've got over 35 of them crowding my shelves and have just run out of the largest and medium sized - so every time I buy a new set to restock, I'm just adding more and more small ones to the chaos 😅

So I thought, seeing as it's my birthday in a few days, I'd share some flowery love AND have a clear out at the same time!

Thought I'd distract you with some nice bright wedding bud vases to make it easier to swallow my awkward public service announcement.

Please, on behalf of the wedding industry and all the fabulous suppliers you will no doubt come across during your wedding planning, please remember to let them know if you decide not to book them.

With over 8 years in business, I've honed the way I give ball park prices so that couples know if I'm within their budget. If you decide I'm in your budget and you ask for a quote, I put a lot of time and effort into giving you a quote. At that stage, it's still perfectly acceptable to decide you don't want to book. Maybe you find another supplier you really like or maybe you find a great deal elsewhere. But please do let me know. Don't just ghost me. Just a quick email or message saying you're not proceeding is absolutely fine. I'm not going to lose my cool with you! I always reply to those messages and always wish couples the best for their wedding day.

I know wedding planning is full-on and sometimes you might forget who you asked for prices. But to ignore follow up correspondence is really not nice. I've seen so many different suppliers say the same thing over the last 2 years. Whether it's a photographer, a DJ, a make up artist or hairdresser, we're all in the same boat. Working hard making booked couples dreams come true whilst managing quotes for future work. Our admin is constant and whilst we don't expect every enquiry to turn into a booking, we do expect (and deserve!) a little courtesy and kindness.

In the middle of August, I can feel the autumn season coming. Especially so this year when all the countryside colours have turned to golden browns so early.

Anyone else thinking about decorating their home for autumn? Can't wait till Christmas to get wreath making?

I have a limited number of dates available for private autumn wreath workshops. In this video all wreaths were made by my lovely guests in a private workshop last year. Some guests had never made a wreath before and, as you can see, everyone created something absolutely beautiful.

I come to you - to your home or to a place you've hired - and bring everything you'll need to design something gorgeous. All materials, tools and friendly fun tuition included. Minimum X6 guests and all you need is a good sized designing space like a kitchen table or island. Add some lovely food and drink and you've got the perfect autumn party for you and your friends.
