Good morning, my gorgeous possums! 💜

What a frightfully grey Wednesday it is. The sun appears to have taken a personal day, but never mind — I’ve got ‘sunshine in my soul’, as the dear old hymn reminds us.

It’s been a wonderfully busy week here so far, filled with weddings, farewells, and enough flowers to make a duchess swoon. It is always such a privilege to play a small part in life’s most precious moments — from joyous celebrations to heartfelt goodbyes.

This morning, the studio is positively bursting with beautiful fresh blooms, and I’m about to immerse myself in a sea of blush pinks, hand-tied bouquets, and all sorts of floral fripperies and fabulous bits and bobs. If the weather insists on being dreary, we’ll simply have to provide our own colour and glamour!

Keep smiling, possums — the world always looks brighter when you do. 😘💐✨

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who continues to support my business. It is a privilege to spend my days pursuing two great passions - flowers and music - and I never take that for granted.

🌸 Back and blooming! 🌸

It’s lovely to be back, refreshed, recharged, and ready for a wonderfully busy summer ahead.

Last weekend certainly eased me back in gently… said no one ever! 😅

Saturday saw me at the piano accompanying Abbey Consort’s ‘Summer Garland’ concert in Melrose, while Sunday began with a 10km run before church, followed by creating one of the most beautiful farewell tributes I’ve ever had the privilege to design.

This morning, it’s straight back into the studio with fresh flowers, full buckets, and plenty of coffee!

Summer 2026 — challenge accepted. 🌿✨

What a truly beautiful weekend it has been.

The sun has smiled upon us, the roses have unfurled in all their splendour, and a visit to david_austin_roses in Albrighton yesterday proved the perfect finale to a most enchanting few days.

The blooms were exquisite beyond words; velvety petals glowed in shades of blush, apricot, and crimson, while their rich perfume hung in the warm air and drifted along the garden paths like a sweet summer reverie, utterly intoxicating and impossible to resist.

Yet even amidst such beauty, my thoughts wandered north to carolsidegardens at Earlston, home to Mrs Foyle’s remarkable National Collection of Gallica Roses — a place where ancient rose bushes spill over old stone walls and timeless charm and romance remain quite unmatched.

A day of quiet beauty, fragrant air scented with roses, and golden sunshine pooling across the gardens. Ethereal, uplifting, and wonderfully restorative.

Simply lovely.

Hello, hello!
Sincerest apologies for the lack of ‘saying hello’ on the socials.

I mentioned it’s been busy behind the scenes a couple of weeks ago, and that very much continues in the weeks to come!

I am taking a little break over the next fortnight just to have a bit of time away from designing. It’s all very well being the swan all the time; even they get tired!

I’ll be back to work on Monday, 8th June. Ready to ‘face the music and dance’. I will of course be contactable, but no flowering shall be done!

Just a very gentle reminder regarding business hours.

One of the great wonders of modern technology is that we can send a message at any time of day or night. However, I do always try to remain mindful that everyone needs a little space and downtime away from work, and I kindly ask the same consideration in return.

Business hours for Flowers by McKenzie are as follows:

Monday — CLOSED
Tuesday to Friday — 9:30am to 3:30pm
Saturday — 9:00am to 12 noon
Sunday — CLOSED

Alongside Flowers by McKenzie, I am also heavily involved in a variety of musical commitments, which take up much of my time outside the business.

This certainly isn’t intended as a complaint — I’m often the first to say “do get in touch” or “I’m only a phone call away”. However, messages or calls sent outside of normal business hours (particularly between 5pm and 9:30am the following morning) may not receive an immediate response.

We live in such an instant world nowadays that patience can sometimes be forgotten — and I am just as guilty of that as anyone else from time to time.

Forgive the silence on the social media front of late… life has been wonderfully full, and I’ve been rather busy “doing life” behind the scenes.

I delivered flowers to some very dear friends the other morning and, needless to say, Mr Stormsy gave his seal of approval immediately. A cat with impeccable taste — he recognises quality when he sees it. 💅🏼😂

There is much blooming quietly in the background at the moment…
Wedding flowers filled with joy and anticipation.
Farewell flowers made with love and tenderness.
Flowers simply to brighten an ordinary day.

And somewhere amongst it all — organing, pianoing, creating, dreaming, and keeping the kettle on.

Life is busy. Flowers are busy.
And I am endlessly grateful to be designing beautiful arrangements for such lovely people every single day.

Did anyone else catch the last of the beautiful sunset last night?
It was so beautiful!

The flowers I’ve been using this week are a mixture of subtle, coral and vibrant pinks and it make me think of the sky last night!

I’ve been very busy behind the scenes this week and lots going on preparing for events and weddings etc. I will be in touch if you’re waiting for a quote from me; ‘don’t panic Mr Mannering’! 🤣

Lots of beautiful flowers going out today and rather special golden wedding flowers too.
