We’re proudly into our 3rd official year of (unofficially 4 years since I first started at Leitholm Village Hall) Our AGM showed us that our members come for a variety of reasons and that they are very talented, creative and resourceful. I love this strong community - the care they take with each other, the advise and knowledge, the warmth and patience at the club. I mean, there’s always the baking too, which helps. The club is about so many things - learning to sew, finding inspiration, having space and tools to create and developing your confidence. Sometimes it’s just about finding a recommendation for a roofer but I like to think it’s because we all want to make nice clothes out of curtains and stick two fingers up at fast fashion!

If you weren’t aware, I get very easily distracted and off list. I have 180 tartan stockings to finish by Monday night (I am maybe two thirds done, I have work tomorrow, but I know it’ll be finished, because it has to be). BUT, after being inspired by .cummings (mending meister, supporter of Palestine, facilitator of creative action) and her Snoopy/not Snoopy decorations, I had a mind to make something for my work colleague, Simon, who I think is a good bloke. He gifts me vintage Snoopy books, Miffy badges and a listening ear. I refuse to buy him the Pepsi Zero that he mainlines on a daily basis so he’s getting this instead. This is Simon in Miffy form, wearing Dickie dungarees with his favourite greeting. Not sure it’s work friendly but, it’s out of my head now so I can get on with 180 stockings.

These ridiculous lavender filled kitty cats are just ridiculous and almost pointless but for the hanger I sewed on last minute to give them PURPOSE. I love a cute thing but I’m not a cute person. I do love to find some use for the tiniest scraps of fabric, the last ends of threads. The stuffing comes from a destroyed Smarshmallow that the dog put a hole in and my mending pile is the size of Everest so it’s being repurposed instead. The hand sewing, the mini bells, the french knots for their noses is a quiet little meditation before I get to the BIG stuff on my to do list. They were fun to sew and given that we’re living through ‘Dumpster Fire 2025’, I’m hoping they bring someone joy at my next market. Manifesting good sales. 🪔 We persist.

It’s been a good long while since I posted a post here or on . But it’s market season and this is what you do to create excitement and ultimately, sales. If I’m not at sewing club or the reuse Hub, you will find me holed up in the sewing room. Not that I’ll talk to you if you do find me. To be honest, I’ve been struggling. Fighting my own procrastination, fighting being organised and socially interactive, fighting my negativity + positivity, fighting my anxiety, fighting time, fighting the guilt of all this despite the dumpster fire going on in the world. Who needs F***Y cushions when such injustice is being metered out onto Palestine, Sudan, Congo, when politics cares so little for the vulnerable, the refugees, the poor, when the environment struggles to support itself. I’ve been wading through treacle. Consistently telling myself to just keep keeping on. Worrying or stressing doesn’t help. But by god, this is too much. Way too much. I’ve got a good Gregg by me which is the only thing that makes this better. Don’t ask me how I am. I may just tell you. Markets this year are: Lind and Lime, sat/sun 29-30 November. Porty Town Hall, Sunday 7 Dec and Stenton village hall Saturday 13 December. So much still to do, so little time and even less sanity. #

Wondering if I’m ready for this but here we go. This barrel shaped trouser has been my go to for at least three years. I have it in all the fabrics and I love it. I’m going to stick my neck out and say these are beginner friendly. Come to Stenton Village Hall on Saturday 25th October and make a pair yourself in whatever fabric you want, let me show you some neat tricks along the way and you’ll end up sewing these a million times! Email me and I’ll send you all the details. So much to learn!

does exactly what it says on the tin. We’re a community group where you can socialise while sewing, get advise and learn, mend, eat cake and use our equipment to make. I started this group so we could mend clothes and limit our reliance on consumerism by making the things we needed/wanted. And now we are a community across four village halls. Friendships have blossomed here, problems solved, shoulders cried on and successes celebrated. We’ve had it all. Come and see what we do. Join in.

‘Unpicking is inevitable’ aka the ramblings of someone who should be getting on with more important things than a vanity post.
I don’t do curtains. They are big and boring. Please buy them second hand or from a shop that does curtains.
I have a mind like a sieve. I will forget to remind you to remind me.
I don’t do alterations, unless you ask nicely or I know you and even that’s not a given. Sometimes I’m a pushover. Sometimes I work for wine, sometimes actual money. Depends on how feisty I’m feeling.
I am very good at what I do. I make lovely things and think very hard how to make them well. It just takes me a VERY long time, sometimes. I am an award-winning procrastinator, after all.
I am an early bird and I am a night owl. Sometimes concurrently, sometimes alternatively and sometimes, neither. I love/hate a deadline. Same applies to visitors. I have a lot of ideas, a thousand solutions, options and variations mostly for other people. I am not so clear and definitive for myself however. I’d love someone to tell ME what to do.
I can go outside in completely inappropriate clothes - a short sleeved t shirt under a sweatshirt when it’s sideways sleeting (I’m not made of sugar and it’s healthy, right?) but I need the room heater blasting right in my face while I sew.
Words that should be used wisely and with caution are: JUST, NEED, WANT, EASY, SORRY, HATE and ? ! Please don’t be tell me your grand suggestion for what I NEED to do. I know my own business, like you know yours.
Be precise: cutting + information. If you don’t know, ask.
This list is by no means conclusive and may be edited at anytime depending on the moon, the sunshine, my finances or my anxiety. Thank you for indulging me. Free Palestine.
