It’s taken a wee while longer than I had planned but batts are now all live on the website and looking for new homes!

Whilst on the subject of floof I am very aware that this years Tour de Fleece is rocketing towards us and is now only 3 weeks away 😲

I have a lot of plans for this years TdF that I hope will come to fruition in time but there is *just* enough time for a wee preorder for a limited edition colourway if anyone is interested? I’m thinking summery shades on a luxury blend top…

Let me know in the comments below whether you’d be interested or check out the poll in my story so I can gauge whether to get the dye pots out 🧶

A wee update on all things Majacraft 🧵

Firstly, and most importantly, a heads up that thanks to the last couple of deliveries I am now sitting on a healthy amount of accessories stock including standard bobbins, drive bands, tension springs and e-hooks. Everything has been updated on the website so if you’ve been waiting on anything now is a good chance to go browse 👍🏼

And now for the nitty gritty:

I think it’s fair to say that the last year or so has been a bit of a rollercoaster for us all, in my case it’s not been helped by my disappearing from the spotlight for 9 months whilst on maternity leave. In my absence (and not long after my return) two of the UK’s Majacraft dealers have made the difficult decision to step away from their businesses and thus there is a lot more traffic coming my direction in search of wheels, accessories and spares.

Yes, this is to the benefit of my business I’m not going to deny it and in this economic climate it is VERY much appreciated but I do feel that I need to clarify a few things in the interest of transparency and mutual understanding for those of you who have found me more recently through my dealership.

Please bear in mind that although I am immensely proud to be Scotland’s Majacraft provider it is one of many hats that I wear along with indie yarn and fibre dyer, yarn shop owner, Knit’n’Natter and Spin In host as well as an authorised dealer for both Kromski and Ashford wheels and looms.

Juggling all of the above requires space, capital and time - all of which are constrained, especially now that I have a toddler on the cusp of walking and limited childcare. The shop, as much as I love it, isn’t huge and as much as I would LOVE to have a back stock of every single wheel and loom available in every colour and brand it’s simply not feasible.

I have, in the past, kept a small number of ready-to-ship wheels in stock but in order to do so I have to pay for them upfront (including customs charges where applicable) and hope that they eventually sell which is a gamble for a small business like mine. For less common wheels they can be sat in storage for months or even years if my gamble hasn’t paid off and in doing so takes cash out of the business that could be better spent elsewhere (or dare I say, used to pay wages).

Majacraft wheels are an investment - a worthy one in my opinion! - but not one that I can afford to keep in stock on the off chance that a sale will come through. This, along with the multiple options available for customising your wheel, is the main reason why I do not intend to order in wheels on spec at any time in the near future.

I understand that the lead time for Majacraft wheels can be frustrating and possibly off-putting and I do apologise for that but when you consider the craftsmanship and the fact that these are essentially bespoke made-to-order wheels I personally think the wait is worthwhile.

In the meantime I am trying my hardest to stock up on ready-to-ship accessories such as the above. Bear in mind also that I had barely any money coming into the business whilst on mat leave but still had bills to cover in order to keep my premises so I was unable to purchase in stock during my absence.

Since returning to work in February I have been investing as much as I can in restocking the shop and that includes yarn, fibre, books, doodle decks, knitting needles and of course, spinning and weaving accessories from all three of my dealerships. For Majacraft this has been a slow but steady process as stock is flying out of the door faster than I can get it in from New Zealand and they are also subject to the same manufacturing lead times as the larger products.

It’s taken about 4 months but I feel like I am finally getting there with the shop and most of the more common items are now readily available on the website. If, however, there is something that you are in need of specifically please back order it as I cannot guarantee that it will be arriving any time soon unless it has been requested and paid for in advance.

I know this has been a long read so I thank you for your time and understanding. ✌🏼

We’re back from our slightly cursed holiday and if you’re interested in hearing a wee bit about it along with an update from behind the scenes then ta-da!

Shop is back open tomorrow from 12-4 and if anyone fancies a wee Spin In this Sunday comment below and let me know 🧵

Happy 1st Birthday to our hilarious, cheeky, extroverted Sealpup 🦭🎂🎁🎈

I don’t know how the last year has flown past so quickly but it has been a privilege to watch Eilidh grow through from teeny tiny baby to crawling, standing and babbling toddler

Thank you to everyone who came to her birthday party last night at the shop to celebrate with us - seeing her face light up during her first ride on her wee tricycle has instantly become a core memory and we are looking forward to many trips around on her trike during our holiday this week…

A reminder that the shop is closed for the next week while we are away and I will be back in on 6th June 💕

🎂🎁🎈 This wee cutie is turning one tomorrow (where has the time gone???) so we will be celebrating with a party in the shop today from 2-8pm. You are more than welcome to join us for party food, cake and final baby cuddles before she transitions fully into a determined wee toddler.

A reminder that I will be away for a family holiday for a week from Friday to celebrate her birthday - and reminisce over the last year of our lives and how much has changed - so the shop will be closed on both Saturday and Thursday next week.

A very quick and ramble-filled update from behind the scenes but the main points are as follows:

It is baby Eilidh’s first birthday this Friday (where has the time gone???) so we are having a wee birthday party at the shop on Thursday night in lieu of Knit’n’Natter and then I will be away for a weeks holiday to celebrate properly.

Away to enjoy the sunshine ☀️ byeeee

I don’t think this part of the shop has ever looked so joyous and full before!

I have had the first of the book restocks after selling out of almost all the new titles at Wonderwool - I also have a couple of new books for you that have now hit the website as well! I am waiting on a reprint of the Doodle Knit Directory to arrive so bear with me if you have placed a preorder at the show but the large Doodle Decks are now back in the shop and I have a healthy collection of expansion packs available.

Also pictured is the new Chaotic Neutrals Collection which I think deserves its own post so keep your eyes peeled for that over the next day or so!

Cost: £5 per person
Tea, coffee, cakes and banter provided

Time: drop in whenever you like between 12pm and 5pm!

The new Caraidean Collection is now live on the website!

Named after the Scottish Gaelic Caraidean /ˈkʰaɾatʃən/ meaning Friends, this range has been inspired by friends and family (and occasional puppies) who have had a positive impact on my life and deserve to be commemorated in colour 🌈

The eagle-eyed amongst you might recognise a lot of these colourways from my long-standing fibre range - it was an inkling of mine that a lot of these colourways would translate beautifully onto yarn and I was correct!

These beauties are dyed on my new all-time favourite yarn base - the iridescent Mermaid Sparkle which was only released last month and has to be seen to be truly appreciated 🧜‍♀️
