🧶 Spin In Sunday is THIS WEEKEND! 🧶

Yes, I did almost forget to mention it *again* 🫣

This is a monthly event which is a great opportunity to meet up with other like-minded spinning folk and chat about all things woolly.

Please bear in mind that this is not a teaching workshop but a great way to be inspired by those around you and possibly pick up on techniques and styles that you may not have seen in person before.

Cost: £5 per person
Tea, coffee, cakes and banter provided

Time: drop in whenever you like between 12pm and 4pm!

What’s the best collective noun for a collection of spinning wheels?

The internet suggests ‘flock’ or ‘herd’ but I feel that they deserve something more whimsical…

Anyway, just to let you know that not only will I be in the shop tomorrow surrounded by my whirl of wheels (yes, no?) but my second YouTube video will be going live at midday featuring my top tips for new spinners so keep your eyes peeled 👀

Sealy MacWheely is now on YouTube! 📣

I have been toying with the idea of starting a YouTube channel for a long, long, long time and after just a bit of prodding (and somewhat unexpected investment in a beautiful new camera to replace my lost trusty DSLR - RIP Simon 🪦📷 wherever you are…) I have taken the plunge and my first video is now officially live!

I figured the best place to start is at the very beginning so why not dive into the annals of Sealy MacWheely, how it all began and what lead me on the somewhat bizarre journey to starting my own yarn and fibre shop.

This weekend I took the family up to the Granite City for the first time as I was teaching a class at the Grampian Guild of Weavers, Spinners and Dyers on Saturday (which of course I totally forgot to take any photos of 🫠)

We decided to extend our stay so I could show my partner and the Sealpup around the city I called home for 5 years of my life and here are a few highlights from our trip…

First things first I managed to squeeze in a wee trip to Ellon to visit the lovely Claire Bentley - hand dyed yarn for knitting and crochet in her new house and meet Reggie the kitten 🐈‍⬛

(I do actually have some pretty massive news coming up later this week but I shall post about that separately in the next few days!)

Took a wee trip over to Newburgh Beach to introduce our pup to the the resident colony of grey seals 🦭

I’ll be honest, she was more interested in the unlimited sandpit…

I put my new telephoto lens to good use and enjoyed watching the seals singing away 🦭

Obligatory shots of my two favourite Aberdonian buildings, Marischal College…

And Kings College where I was lucky enough to have been a student a few moons ago…

And finally we took the opportunity to visit the absolute fever-dream that is Storybook Glen - a place I have heard of in hushed whisper but never visited. Figured Eilidh is too young to be truly traumatised by it and we found it hilariously charming.
10/10 will be visiting again when she’s a wee bit older and will be able to fully appreciate both the Glen and the Den soft play…

Against the odds we’re pretty certain Eilidh recognised ‘Fireman Sam’ though she did spend a couple of minutes babbling angrily at him… not quite sure why she was upset because she absolutely loves our hero next door 😂

I am pretty certain he is going to haunt my nightmares for the next few years…

I literally have no words.

Shrek however has a certain ogre-ish charm about him…

Remember me? It’s been a while since I last updated the socials but I’m still here, currently nap trapped and fighting off a migraine and looking round the shop mentally adding to the epic to-do list that never seems to get any shorter…
I have so much planned for the coming months that I want to share but somehow never manage to find time to do so. Tour de Fleece has been and gone and I think I ultimately totalled maybe 5 hours of spinning during that time but hey, it’s better than nothing. At some point I’ll maybe try and post some photos of what I did manage to achieve but time is fleeting and I’ve still not mastered this work:life balance malarkey…
Anywho, I’ve got nothing important to say other than hello 👋🏼 and a promise to myself that I will get back on the horse again soon.

As expected my Tour de Fleece involvement this year has been quite sporadic but I have at least finally completed one of my projects and freed up I think 7 bobbins so go me! 🧵

Pictured is the completed braid of Sophia that I started I *think* last year, possibly the year before and is destined to be knitted into a gift… eventually…

Get your wheels and spindles ready cause Tour de Fleece 2026 starts TOMORROW!

I feel like the last few weeks have flown past and pretty much all my well-meaning plans have fallen by the wayside but I am DETERMINED to take part this year!

I have dusted off the Facebook group so if you would like to join us on your journey and share your wins and woes with us feel free to do so - I shall pop the link in bi0. As with previous years I have a wee competition running for the tour, all information for it can be found in the group description.

To kick start this years event we shall also be hosting our annual TdF Spin In this Sunday 5th July from 12-4 - everyone welcome!

And last but by no means least, pictured is the first of a wee collection of luxury tops that I shall be releasing throughout the tour.

‘Stop and Smell the Roses’ is a pretty and summery mix of dusky pink and peach tones dyed on a luxurious blend of British BFL, Baby Alpaca and Rose fibre 💐

Massive thank you to the wonderful Cath, co-author of my favourite spinning book, ‘Inspired to Spin’ for swinging by the shop today en route home from her Scottish tour.

What a lovely afternoon it’s been chatting with everyone who made it along to the meet & greet and book signing 💕

Very grateful for the coolness of the shop today as it meant I got to show off my new Love Note that I cast off last night at midnight without melting 🤪

I’m very excited to let you know that the lovely Cath Snape, co-author of my all-time favourite Spinning book ‘Inspired to Spin’ will be visiting the shop this Tuesday 23rd June from 3-6pm.

We will be having an extra Knit’n’Natter-cum-Spin In plus book signing ✍🏼 with copies available for purchase if you haven’t already nabbed one!

All welcome, no charge and tea and coffee available (and maybe cake if our oven is fixed in time!)
