Two years of Trinket ❤️
Last month marked year 2 and I’ve been sitting with it a bit since then.
My background is in hospitality working in a family pub, I then went on to operating a café and bar of my own. Retail is new to me and I’ve learnt most of it as I’ve gone along.
I’ve made mistakes, some proper expensive ones. Things I was sure would work that didn’t move at all. And then things I nearly didn’t bring in that ended up being some of the best sellers.
I’m still working out what the shop fully is, still changing things, still trying new products and seeing what sticks.
This year has seen small steady growth, which in the current climate means a lot more than it probably sounds.
Some days I love it ❤️ some days I question everything. That’s just how it is.
Thank you to the customers, supporters, and people of Knaresborough. I see the familiar faces, the chats, the people who come back in, and it genuinely means a lot.
I do notice when people come in from other towns, when they stop and take photos, or come in looking for something they’ve seen. That still feels surreal, but I’m really proud of it.
I’ve been lucky over the past few years to have products made exclusively for Trinket, alongside handmade and unusual finds, and to also stock brands that have been around for over a century. That mix has really shaped what the shop is becoming, even while I’m still figuring it out.
I’ve got plans for the next few years for Trinket and I’m building it slowly into something stronger and more established.
And I’ve also been really lucky with the people around me — my fellow business owners and everyone working on Chestergate. Some of the best people I’ve met and genuinely surrounded by fantastic independent businesses who support each other more than people probably realise.
Here’s to year three ❤️
A trinket is an object that’s a keepsake. It has sentimental value and means something to the owner x
