Due to a few new followers, I thought I’d do an updated post about me and the business 🫶 I opened the shop in September 2019. Prior to this, I’d had a variety of jobs working with young people and in retail and I’ve got a degree in Psychology. The opportunity arose for me to rent the unit and fashion has always been a passion of mine but I never had the confidence to do anything about it.
I went on trips to Paris to source suppliers and completely renovated the unit from a sandwich shop into what you see today. I designed and built my own website and this launched in February 2020. Then disaster struck.
I was absolutely devastated when in March 2020, I had to close the shop due to the first lockdown. I hadn’t had a chance to fully establish myself yet and the website hadn’t taken off. I’d been reliant on the physical shop to make money and hadn’t gained much confidence using social media as it was my idea of hell, putting myself out there. But after we had all gotten used to the idea of being stuck at home during that first lockdown, it was time to get out of my comfort zone and I filmed my first IGTV (retro). It took me around 11 attempts, I felt so nervous but it was my only option!
I’d do this weekly with new in stock. I also did a ‘lockdown life with Lula’ series with input from other independent businesses and built up my Instagram to almost 7k - small fry for most, but for me that was huge 🥰
Things went back to normal and I was so happy to be back in the shop but continued with Instagram. Then another bump in the road, as my original account got taken down in February 2022. There’s a pinned post explaining that but I tried hard to retrieve it with no luck and had to start from scratch, losing everything.
I’ve probably bored most of you but here I am today, approaching 4 years in businesses which has been a rollercoaster to say the least. And it’s all thanks to my customers! If you’re new here, and you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to send me a message or pop in to the shop. I’m always happy to help! Lots of love, Emma xoxo
