Red Five Forge Beautiful, handcrafted kitchen knives made in Suffolk, England.

I have been a teacher of woodwork and other crafts for the last twenty years but it was only in March 2016 that I decided to further my skill set by enrolling on a knife making course where I forged my first blade. Although it was the most basic of objects, it was my first step into the vast and wonderful craft of bladesmithing and the beginning of Red Five Forge…. For me, making knives has become an absolute passion and has sent me on a thoroughly enjoyable journey the end of which I am in no hurry to reach. I’ve been focusing mainly on kitchen knives for the past couple of years, in particular, pattern-welded Damascus steel blades. This involves working all kinds of high carbon steel into some beautiful, ‘fluid’ patterns that you only truly get to appreciate once the blade has had its final etch.

So that’s September done and what a fantastic course it was! 🙌 We had a last minute cancellation that left just two students but it didn’t dampen the experience at all! Both Martin & Yuuchi got stuck right in, produced some beautiful pieces of work and thoroughly enjoyed the experience 👏😊

It’s always a bit of a juggle but I try and make a little video of the day so the students can share their experience with their friend’s & family and it also gives you an insight to the shenanigans we get up to on my two-day damascus kitchen knife course 👍✨🔪✨

What a fantastic course July 2026 was! 🙌 Chris, Simon, Martin & Neil all did an amazing job. They produced some beautiful pieces of cutlery and thoroughly enjoyed themselves to boot 🥳

Nice to get back to the courses after A little spring break 😊 This one was a blast and Liam, Martin, Roy & Andy absolutely smashed it! 💪

There’s always a buzz at the end of the course when the students look down at their work and reflect on the journey they’ve been on for the last couple of days, taking raw material and working it into something nothing short of bloomin gorgeous! 😍

I look forward to the next one and believe I still have a few spaces left moving towards autumn if you fancy a slice 🤙

That’s a wrap on my March two-day damascus course and the guys absolutely killed it! 💪

Once again that’s 4 handmade, original and absolutely beautiful pieces that head out into the big wide world and four very happy customers 😊

I have added a few more dates later in the year so why not jump on in and see what all the fuss is about 😉
