Hi I’m Laura, and I run Ardloch Interiors based in Lesmahagow.

I have years of experience in the industry and have made countless products for my customers homes and hospitality businesses.

Or even better share this post and help me create more beautiful soft furnishings for homes and businesses across Scotland.

Windows are rarely as straightforward as they look. You can measure the width and drop, of course, but that’s only part of it.
You’ve also got to look at where the pole or track will sit, whether there’s a radiator underneath, how deep the sill is, what’s happening at the ceiling, how much space there is at either side, and how the curtains will actually hang once they’re made.

It’s why I always prefer to measure in the room itself, and why I offer an in your home consultation and measuring service. Sometimes the thing that affects the finished curtain isn’t obvious until you’re standing right there looking at the window properly.

If you’re thinking about new curtains, send me a message or visit the website and we can arrange a consultation. Bookings are at least 4 weeks in advance.

It’s no wonder I get a sore back 😂😂- who needs the gym?!
This is me pulling a 4 width, 3 meter drop interlined curtain across my table to measure it off - there are about 42 meters of fabric here!

If you’d like new curtains or blinds fitted later in the summer, this is your gentle nudge to start now.
I know it feels early when we’re only just getting into summer, but bespoke curtains aren’t something that happen overnight.

There’s time needed for measuring, choosing the right fabric, checking details, making everything properly, and arranging fitting.
And in the middle of holidays, days out, family plans and everyone being a bit out of routine, July and August can fill up quickly.

I’m now booking consultations for July and August, so if you have a room you’d like to get finished before autumn starts creeping in, send me a message and we can chat through what you need.
Save this as your reminder, or send it to someone who’s been meaning to get in touch.

Reviews like this honestly mean so much.
When someone invites me into their home to help with curtains, blinds or soft furnishings, it’s not just about choosing a fabric and taking a few measurements.

It’s about listening to what they want the room to feel like, helping them make decisions, making everything by hand, and then making sure it looks right once it’s fitted, and that bit really matters to me.

I don’t just want something to be “done”. I want to walk away knowing it sits properly, hangs beautifully, and feels like it belongs in their home.
So to have that personal touch noticed in a review like this is very special.

If you know someone who’s thinking about new curtains, blinds, cushions or lampshades for their home, Id love you to shar this- a personal recommendation is always the loveliest way for people to find me.

There’s a reason made-to-measure curtains cost more than something you pick up ready-made, and it’s not because someone has stuck the word “bespoke” on it. It’s because every part is thought through.

The measurements.
The fabric.
The lining.
The heading.
The fullness.
The length.
The way they’ll hang.
The way they’ll open.
The way they’ll finish the room.

A ready-made curtain has to fit lots of homes. A made-to-measure curtain only has to fit yours. (read that again).

That’s the bit people don’t always consider when they’re comparing prices, but it’s the bit that makes all the difference when they’re finally hanging.
Planning curtains this year? Save this so you know what you’re really paying for.

Apparently you love watching the making more than the final result.
I have more clips of me cutting, sewing and measuring than my camera roll can handle.
These were snippets of piped cushions and a lampshade for different customers.

Please remember I work at least 4 weeks in advance and in the Summer months turnaround can take a little longer, so don't put off booking a consultation.

Some jobs stop you in your tracks a little bit.
These curtains and pelmets were made for Saints of Ingram in Glasgow, inside the beautiful Hutchesons’ Hall on Ingram Street.

And I can't tell you what a space it was to work on.😍
The height of the windows, the stained glass, the dark walls, the gold detailing, the whole history of the building… it already had so much character before a single piece of fabric went near it.

So the curtains had to feel right.
They couldn’t just be simple window dressings. In a room like this, they needed to feel properly part of it. Rich, full, dramatic, and in keeping with the space without taking away from all the original details.

That’s always the balance with a building like this. You want the soft furnishings to add warmth and finish, but still respect what’s already there.
A lot of measuring, planning, making and checking went into these, but seeing them up in the room made it all worth it.

Definitely one of those jobs I’ll remember.

I love this room, the view is framed perfectly with the twin windows, and the roman blinds were a joy to make. The matching cushions give the bed just an extra lift to tie it together. The wooden beam and the furniture are warm and inviting.
The whole room just gives a sense of calm, a place to retreat at the end of the day.
What's your favourite bit about this room?

I know everyone talks about curtains being the thing that finishes a room… but it doesn't have to be- the smaller bits can pull everything together.

I love this lampshade. The soft burnt orange outer and the copper metallic lining is the perfect match. When the light’s on, it gives off such a warm glow and suddenly ties in with all the other tones in the room.

That’s one of the things I love about making things for people’s homes. Seeing how one cushion, one lampshade, or one fabric choice can make everything feel complete.
It's not all curtains and blinds, I make bespoke lampshades and cushions too.
