Let’s Strip This Mid Century Desk…

This Stag desk was a steal, BUT with good reason

I stripped back the various colours of paint with a paint and varnish st****er before cleaning it up and giving it a once over

I decided to refinish wood using a Hardwax Oil that nourishes and protects the stunning grain while highlighting some detailing with a touch of black paint

I’d love to know what you think of this rescue

Ad | I was truly not prepared for how heartbreaking it would be to update my sons room from a kids room to a teens room.

Gone are the superheroes

Gone are the dinosaurs

Luckily, he didn’t go too crazy with his requests.

He found a beautiful mural from Hovia, Grunge, that he picked in light blue.

I’m always a little nervous with wallpaper.

But I was able to lay the Hovia design out, and within an afternoon had the mural up and finished!

A nice easy update that’s taken the space from little kid to teenager in a day.

Lets rescue these chairs

I hosed the chairs down and brushed on a wood reviver before giving them a gentle scrub to lift the greying wood

After a gentle sand I refinished the wood in a teak oil to bring out the beautiful grain.

A really easy update and they’re ready for some evenings around the fire pit

Let’s Strip this pair of Drawers!

I started by using a quality paint and varnish st****er to lift the various layers of old paint

The feet and carved detailings were a little trickier and required some hand sanding

I then mixed my paint with top coat to create a wash like glaze.

I decided on a green based taupe to cancel out to red tones in the wood.

I sprayed the piece down to allow more working time.

And finally top coated both pieces for a longer lasting finish

Is there anything better than stripping back old paint to uncover gorgeous wood?

These drawers were covered in a thick, white, gloss paint.

I stripped it all using a paint st****er before giving them a good clean.

The wood was in great condition so I used a tinted wax to give the piece a beautiful farmhouse look while protecting and nourishing the wood.

Unfortunately the drawers didn’t come with the original hardware but I was able to source a set that fit perfectly

I’d love to know what you think of the new farmhouse look?

Let’s Strip This Stag Desk…

I used a paint and varnish st****er to removed the layers of old, blue paint to find the desk was in great condition underneath

I decided on a darker, rich finish for this console table so used a dark wax to really add some depth.

What do you think of the darker finish?

Ad | This GPlan cabinet was £10 and came with a broken handle.

I stripped it all back and removed the damaged, wooden pulls before filling and sanding.

I knew I wanted to try something a little different for this piece so I looked through the Atomm design platform for a geometric design. There were literally thousands to pick from!

When I finally had one chosen, I loaded it into the studio. I altered the design to fit the cabinet and then got cutting some mdf panels.

Once the panels were cut I simply primed and painted them before gluing them to the door fronts and adding some new hardware.

We now have the perfect cocktail cabinet to help celebrate 6th anniversary!

Ad | I love Ercol but I’m not a huge fan of the dark finish.

I stripped back the dark finish to reveal the most beautiful wood grain beneath.

I then added a soft, natural stain and top coat to keep the wood nice, light and looking its best for years to come,

The sideboard is for our front room, which can be tricky with lighting. We Decided to update the main light with a Corston Architectural Detail Brookfield Large Pendant Light to help

The room still needed a few more layers to help bring it all together

We added some beautiful accent lighting to help with the “ber” months with the Cotswold Small Table Lamp in Bronze. A cute candle and we’re ready for the cosy months with the perfect sideboard lighting.

Quick question though, does anyone actually turn the big light on?

But while I love vintage furniture and some gorgeous patina, I hate old worn finishes and other peoples dirt!

These vintage farmhouse drawers were beautiful, but so dull and unbelievably filthy!

I cleaned them up before stripping the old finish back to the raw wood.

I then created a soft pink glaze that I used to add a little warmth back into the piece

How do you feel about vintage finds and their old life?

Your furniture just needs a makeover!

These drawers were looking a little tatty, they just needed a little update.

After cleaning the them, I sanded back the old worn varnish. I then gave the wood a soft light finish using a custom mix glaze.

But the drawers were missing a little something.

I decided to give them a stripy finish, mixing a soft sage green with the washed wood.

Let me know what you think of this upcycle

And don’t forget to follow if you’d like more ways to save and update your furniture

I love the lighter grain and solid green contrast, but what do you think?
