It was an absolute pleasure to make and deliver this huge 3 metre x 1.2 metre custom farmhouse dining table to a beautiful home local to us here at Lichfield Furniture Company.

At this size, it really is a statement piece — but seeing it in the room, it feels completely at home and fills the space beautifully.

The customer wanted a substantial traditional farmhouse-style table, so this one was made with a large solid timber top and chunky turned legs to give it the presence the room needed.

This is exactly why I enjoy making furniture to order. A table like this doesn’t have to come in a standard size — it can be designed around the room, the number of people you want to seat and the style of your home.

Safely in their new home

This latest shoe storage bench and matching coat rack have now been delivered and are looking right at home in the hallway.

The bench was made to give plenty of practical storage without taking over the space, with four wicker baskets for shoes and everyday bits, while the matching wall-mounted coat hooks keep everything together and make great use of the wall above.

I really like how this set has worked in the room — practical, solid, and still warm enough to feel like part of the decor rather than just storage.

From the workshop to pride of place in its new home

A few days ago I shared this custom record player and media unit in the workshop — and here it is now, fully set up in its new home.

This one was designed specifically around the customer’s record player, amplifier, CD player, vinyl collection and media equipment, with:

• Dedicated vinyl storage
• Open shelving sized for the equipment
• Three useful drawers
• Space for CDs and accessories
• A solid timber top for the record player

The big advantage of having something made to order is that the layout can be designed around your equipment, your collection and the space you have available, rather than having to compromise with a standard unit.

Another custom hallway storage set finished in the workshop

This time it’s a solid timber shoe storage bench with four wicker baskets, paired with a matching wall-mounted coat rack, all finished in a rich dark oak wax colour.

I really like how the darker finish brings out the grain and character of the timber, while the baskets keep everyday shoes and bits neatly tucked away.

As with all of my hallway furniture, the design can be adapted around your home rather than being restricted to standard sizes.

Custom record player & vinyl storage unit

Just finished this bespoke media unit, designed specifically to house a record player, vinyl collection and all the bits that go with it.

The layout includes a mix of:

• Open shelving for media equipment and display
• Dedicated record storage at the bottom
• Three useful drawers for accessories, cables, remotes and smaller items
• A wide solid timber top for the record player or other equipment

It’s a good example of why made-to-measure furniture works so well — the internal layout can be designed around exactly what you need to store, rather than trying to make a standard unit work.

This style could also be adapted for:

Custom hallway storage taking shape in the workshop

A few bespoke shoe storage benches and matching coat hooks coming together at the moment, all made to suit the customer’s space and how they actually want to use it.

These can be made with wicker baskets for hidden storage, open shelving for shoes, or a combination of the two. The matching coat racks can also be made to the same width and finish, with the number and style of hooks chosen to suit.

Because everything is made to order, the design can be adapted in lots of ways:

This hallway console table was custom made to work around an awkward radiator, turning an otherwise difficult area into a useful piece of furniture without making the hallway feel crowded.

That’s one of the biggest advantages of having furniture made to order — it doesn’t have to be a standard size, and it doesn’t have to be a standard design.

Safely in its new home

This custom king-size solid timber bed has now been delivered and fitted, complete with the new chevron headboard design.

I made this headboard as a bespoke design originally, but seeing it finished and in the room, I think it works so well that it may have to become one of the regular Lichfield Furniture Company bed options.

The bold chevron pattern gives the bed a real focal point without being too fussy, and the darker timber finish works perfectly with the rest of the room.

As with all of my beds, this style can be adapted to suit your space and preferences:

• Low, medium or high footboards
• Solid or slatted styles
• Four-poster options

A lovely set of customer photos showing a few recent pieces now in place — a solid timber sideboard, matching side tables and a bespoke dining table.

This is exactly what made-to-order furniture is all about. Rather than trying to make a standard-sized piece fit your room, I can build furniture around your space, your layout and the style of your home.

The dining table here has a substantial solid timber top combined with a heavy-duty custom-made wooden base, finished in a painted black finish to give it a more contemporary industrial look.

The side tables continue the same timber-and-black combination, while the sideboard gives plenty of practical storage while keeping that solid, handmade feel.

A new bed design taking shape in the workshop

I’ve just finished making this custom headboard for a king-size bed and I’m really pleased with how the design has come together.

The customer wanted something a little different, so I went with this chevron-style design to create a real feature headboard while still keeping the solid, rustic style that suits Lichfield Furniture Company.

I like it enough that I’m seriously considering adding this as one of our regular bed options.

One of the advantages of everything being handmade is that you’re not restricted to standard designs. Beds can be made to suit your room, your preferred style and the size you need — from changes to the headboard and footboard through to completely bespoke pieces.

And it’s not just beds. I can also make matching bedside tables, blanket boxes, chests of drawers, dressing tables, clothing rails and other bedroom furniture to help create a complete look.
