All loaded with our courier this morning and off to its new home; this very special and very vernacular Welsh oak chest of drawers c1820 from Llandysul in the mid Teifi valley. Professionally restored and polished in house and ready for another 200 years of use.
Proportions, beautifully simple design, grain and colour all combining to make this an incredible looking piece and too good not to share.
We always have a good stock of functional Welsh country furniture in stock, please feel free to pay us a visit should you be looking for the perfect piece.
Have a great day everyone
Best wishes

Working my way through some lovely antique maps and prints today I came across this intriguing coloured engraving from the 1800’s.
“The Life & Age of Woman”
Visually beautiful and with incredibly vibrant colours. The subject matter and indeed the rather choice wording would likely not be so well received nowadays but they do give us an insight as to the opinions of the artist and perhaps how women were viewed in society at this time. As a piece of art and history it certainly is interesting and I thought worthy of a share.
Have a lovely evening everyone
Best wishes

We have been asked by a few followers how our car is as we haven’t posted a pic of her for so long.
Seren is our beautiful rescue Forest Cat who we adopted from Cats Protection in Swansea 8 years ago. In Welsh Seren means “star”.

It is pronounced seh-ren (with the stress on the first syllable).

The singular noun is seren (a star), while the plural word for stars is sêr.

It is a popular given name in Wales (mostly for girls, though historically unisex). While derived from the traditional Welsh vocabulary word, its widespread use as a modern first name grew starting in the mid-to-late 20th century.

She is such a beautiful soul, a true gentle giant and we are very blessed to have her as part of our family.

Enjoy the rest of your evening all, Yvonne and family xx

Walking the south beach at Aberaeron this week I spotted for the first time a piece of recognisable pottery. Finds like this on our shoreline here aren’t common and this little fragment really made me smile. Of all the pieces that could have been found the one containing the name of the brewery was miraculously the one.
Buckley Brewery was based in Llanelli in South Wales and this piece was most likely from a Ginger B**r Bottle c1900 or there abouts.
It’s not likely to have been rolling around in the rocks on this exposed beach for long, likely dug up by the machines working on the harbour breakwater in the last couple of years just waiting to be found by a passionate antiques dealer who of course took it home to add to all the other treasures the years have gifted.
Have a lovely day everyone

Barn at Cwmann in the mid Teifi valley. This lovely building has always stood out to me, probably because I still haven’t seen another example quite like it. Unusually it doesn’t seem associated with any building nearby and has always appeared to be a stand alone structure. I’d love to know of anything similar you know of to perhaps solve the mystery of its origins.
Restoring some lovely new stock ready for the shop today, can’t wait to share it with you all when they are finished.
Have a lovely day, best wishes

This spectacular primitive Welsh Stick Chair from the mid Teifi valley sold straight from our Antiques Shop recently before we had the chance to add it to the website.
Incredibly original with lots of early paint and too good not to share.
We have always been known for the quality and numeracy of the stick chairs and primitive pieces we sell and whilst they have become incredibly rare we still continue to find them. Please feel free to get in touch if you are looking for that special piece and we will be happy to help.
Have a lovely afternoon everyone

A little ASMR video and some relaxing pics for this evenings post. The weather yesterday when I took these pics was certainly better than today.
Following a morning at our antiques shop I ventured out with a friend in the afternoon to target the unique black-finned brown trout of Llyn Bugeilyn on the dry fly.
At an elevation of 1700ft above sea level this remote and picturesque lake sits high in the Cambrian mountains to the south east of Machynlleth. On a fair day it was very kind to us but I can imagine the winter storms here to be as harsh as you could get in Wales with little to shelter you.
I hope to return one day and hope the weather is just as good.
Have a lovely evening everyone
Best wishes, Jon

Aesthetically the most pleasing primitive Pig Bench table that we have seen in a very long time. Complete with original iron rods holding the two plank top firmly together this piece was built for use and a long and serviceable life.
A truly incredible piece that would make a perfect coffee table, foot stool or low seat.

Another wriggly tin gem spotted whilst on an antiques call this week. I wonder what this wonderful shed was originally built for and what it’s used have been over the generations. Many such unassuming little buildings were active workshops for hobbyists and professionals alike, we know of several used as; Taylor’s and seamstress workshops, hat makers, cobblers and wood turners shop.
Difficult to believe that modern equivalent off the peg cost-effective sheds will last as long as these have and service so many generations (I know mine won’t lol). A testament to their design for sure.
Have a lovely evening everyone.
Best wishes
