The Decorative Fair has just opened, and I’ve just finished setting up. We’re open until Sunday at 6pm, with free parking outside, and dogs welcome. Come and say hi if you visit - I’m on stand E27 in the far right corner, by the coffee bar (excellent coffee by the way).

An emperor dragonfly in an Arts & Crafts frame, circa 1900, early evening.

There were so many dragonflies this summer, and they’d often fly into my studio, which is what inspired this work. The frame is ideal, as the dragonfly was a motif of the period, and the patterning also echoes the subtle intricacies of the wings.

Dragonfly lineage goes back 300,000,000 years to the Carboniferous period, predating dinosaurs by about 100m years. They’re not as ancient as sharks though, which predate dragonflies by about 450m years. Incredible!

Little lucky stars fresh from the kiln, fired with gold and platinum, metals created in supernovas and when stars collide. I’m looking forward to displaying them at The Decorative Fair (29 September to 4 October), and they’ll be available online from Monday.

A swallowtail butterfly, drawn with underglaze pencils and fired on handmade ceramic, in a gem of a frame - English, 18th century, hand-carved and water-gilded. An artwork in itself 👌. I’ll be exhibiting this Decorative Fair from 29 September to 4 October.

I’ve just finished firing some Lucky Stars, and they’ve come out beautifully - the most beautiful yet.
✨
I fire gold and platinum lustre into the stars, as these metals are created when stars collide, and in supernovas, when they explode and the metals are cast into the universe. There’s something cyclical in them becoming stars again, and a continuity that I like. They’ll be available online shortly, and I hope that wherever they end up, they bring happiness and luck to their new owners. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A photo, sketches and clippings from the family album, of my artist-inventor great grandfather Major Cliff Fleming-Williams sketching from a plane, to assess how useful it would be for gathering military intelligence. He had to tie the pre-sharpened pencils to pieces of string to prevent them from flying out of his hand and shattering the propellor blades, and invented a device (illustrated) that made drawing from the skies easier. It’s mind-blowing how quickly things have advanced, in such a short period of time - perhaps too quickly!

A photo, sketches and clippings from the family album, of my artist-inventor great grandfather Major Cliff Fleming-Williams sketching from a plane, to assess how useful it would be for gathering military intelligence. The view from the side of Pen, which was enveloped by a thick mist last night that’s currently dissipating in the early morning sun. Temperatures are forecast to head into the mid-20C’s later: heaven! ☀️
