Treasure unearthed recently, now we quite often come across old newspaper when fitting new timber sash and case as this was commonly used as a packing material but this one from Chicago Daily Tribune in May 1948 was quite unusual and got us wondering how on earth it made it's way here !!😲

Exciting opportunity - Handyman/Labourer Bonnington’s Ltd:
You will usually be required to work solely on weekdays with standard hours of 8am to 4:30pm, or part time.
Responsibilities:
Perform basic tasks including priming, clean facilities and managing maintenance repairs.
Deliveries - help unload glass, timber, materials and other deliveries due at workshop premises.
Unpack and store away deliveries received - timber, windows, mouldings, weights, materials
Priming of windows, doors, etc. as instructed.
Mortising.
Clean the workshop, toilet area, kitchen and office areas.
Detects and reports any need for major maintenance repairs.
Change the dust bags for workshop machinery.
Maintain the cleanliness of outside spaces such as parking area, storage areas on premises and
Oversee the skip containers on the company premises and ensure they are filled and ready for collection on due days.
Conduct performance assessments of company appliances, such as refrigerators, microwaves, stoves, and coffee makers.
Get orders ready for collection and help joiners/customers to upload their items.
Checks incoming materials, equipment, and supplies against packing slips; assigns materials to the proper yard location; issues materials to installation crews; records all materials leaving the yard.
Requirements:
A minimum of 2 years’ working experience in a similar role.
Ability to work with hardware tools and power equipment.
Rate of pay: £13:75 per hour.

Bonningtons Ltd is looking for an apprentice joiner to join our team, we are based in Midlothian with a lot of work stretching into Edinburgh. Work proactively with your senior joiners to gain the knowledge and experience you will need to become a qualified joiner. You will be working in a small team in our joinery workshop assisting joiners. Training will be given in the following roles and responsibilities:
• Using a range of joinery hand tools, portable machinery (drills, sanders, routers).
• Assemble joinery items such as doors, windows and bespoke furniture.
• Manual handling and health and safety.
• You will be trained to fit and install windows and doors in residential properties with a team
• This will include the process of workflow from receiving the job details, picking the items up from the workshop, removal of old windows and fitting the new ones in a variety of different settings.
• This practical learning will be backed up by off the job training and study.
Commit yourself to the apprenticeship programme and attend college when asked to do so. Must be professional around customers and clients, learn respect for your environment especially when working within peoples homes. This job is Monday - Friday 08.00-16.30.
