We were lucky enough to move into our dream home around 7 months ago now - it's an 1870's Victorian property with lots of character and many original features.
Along with the historic charm of the building, I think the thing that really drew me to this house is that it is unspoiled - the previous owners didn't put it through any huge renovations, so it feels like a little time capsule. It hasn't been modernised in the ways that I hate, with spotlights and bifolding doors and huge open plan spaces.
It's crooked and fussy - you have to close the bathroom door just so in order to lock it and there's a knack to doing almost everything. It has its own personality and I love it.
It absolutely needs a lot of work - I'm not going to romanticise it too much and pretend that it's all pretty because we have damp, walls in terrible condition, creaking floorboards, temperature regulation problems (freezing in the winter and roasting in the summer) but we've taken it all on with our eyes wide open.
We're living in it for at least a full year to really understand how we utilise the current space, see where the light comes in and better understand our future needs as a family.
I have so many ideas for this house but here are just a few of my favourites. It feels really exciting to gather these ideas for the design and start bringing it all to life!
I mostly post interior design advice videos here but if you're interested in my renovation journey, I'd love to know what sort of stuff is most interesting to you. Is it choosing flooring, paint, furniture etc or is it more pulling together a design scheme for the whole home? Let me know what you'd like to see! 🫶🏽
