Today, on International Women’s Day, I want to celebrate the most incredible woman in my life, my Mum.
In the 1970s she left the Philippines and immigrated to Australia with courage, determination and hope for a better future. Alongside my father, she built a life from the ground up, not only supporting her own family but working tirelessly to help others as well.
She gave endlessly. Supporting relatives, volunteering, creating opportunities, funding and helping others access education to further careers and opportunities. Her generosity, strength and sacrifice have shaped many generations. She embodies the true meaning of “Give to Gain.” By lifting others, she created opportunities not only for herself but for so many people around her.
Her resilience reminds me that when women support others, entire families and communities rise with them. Mum, you are my mentor, my inspiration and my hero. Everything I strive to be is because of the example you set. Today I celebrate you, and all the women who give so much of themselves so others can grow, thrive and rise.
