Ever wondered why chopping an onion can have you reaching for the tissues? 🧅

It all comes down to chemistry.

A sharp knife makes cleaner, more controlled cuts, while a blunt knife can crush and tear the onion rather than slicing cleanly through it.

It won't guarantee a tear-free kitchen… but it will make your prep easier, more precise and a little less frustrating. 🔪

When was the last time your knife had a sharpen?

The way you hold your knife can make a big difference to your control, precision and confidence in the kitchen.

One of the most useful techniques to learn is the pinch grip.
Instead of wrapping your whole hand around the handle, gently pinch the blade between your thumb and index finger, just in front of the handle, with the rest of your fingers wrapped comfortably around the handle.

This gives you much more control over the blade and helps you guide each cut with greater precision.

A few other things to remember:
✔ Keep your grip firm, but relaxed
✔ Let the knife do the work, don’t force it
✔ Keep your cutting board stable
✔ Use your other hand to guide the ingredient, keeping your fingertips safely tucked back
✔ Focus on controlled movements rather than speed

Good knife skills are built through practice, not rushing.
