Is everyone going to be watching the solar eclipse today?

We have managed to procure eclipse glasses (thank you !) and I will be making a pinhole projector today with my daughter. She’s not quite 4 and still looks a bit bewildered when I try to explain what’s going on, but I’m sure she’ll be happy that bath time is a bit later today so the grown ups can stare at a cardboard box or a colander and some paper 😂

Whatever your views on astrology, it’s pretty amazing to me that there’s such a buzz around this celestial event. That the position of orbs in the cosmos is a focus of fascination, wonder and awe. (Side note: How different life might be if we felt this about more of nature’s little miracles?) Folklore across the world speaks of various creatures and mythical beasts chasing and devouring the sun during an eclipse, and a lot of the accompanying traditions involve rituals to keep them at bay and see the light return. I might get an instrument or two to bash with the kids, but perhaps more just to celebrate the wonder of the cosmos and the solar eclipse itself than chasing away demons.

Anyway, thought I’d make a little print to commemorate this rare celestial spectacle ☀️🌑☀️

What an incredible weekend at I already can’t wait for next year (10-11th July GET IT IN YOUR CALENDARS KIDS)

Thank you so much to Tim Sutton for organising another absolute cracker of a weekend and everyone who volunteered, helped distribute flyers, and all the hidden things that go on behind the scenes to make an event like Urban Art such a success.

Once again the calibre of artists was off the charts and I definitely felt the imposter syndrome loud and clear, but I also have come away feeling endlessly inspired and can’t wait to feed all the new ideas back into my sketchbook and studio.

These events aren’t just about people buying the work, it’s so much more than that. I’ve had the pleasure of chatting to other artists about creativity and this wild path we’re on together, but also an ecologist who shared my excitement of birds and snakes, a student passionate about global folklore and weaving together stories through visual art, music and words (I can’t WAIT to see how her path unfolds and hopefully join her along the way sometime!), a Tantrika who connected with the botanical symbolism but also the human forms I’ve occasionally used in my prints and the idea of the body as a microcosm of the universe, and a beautiful fellow witchy soul who I could have spoken to for hours. The sales can be confirmation/validation to some degree that something is resonating, but the conversations are the wellspring that keep the work coming. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for sharing these moments with me 🙏

Printing my foraging basket design onto a t-shirt 🧺

What do you think? Should I bring this design to my workshop next week at Pipoca Brixton? We’ll be carving small lino plates to print onto our fabrics, totes and whatever garments guests bring, but I’m going to bring a few of my own designs too if you fancy seeing one of them on your clothes?

What do you think? Is it bad that I mainly made this snake print because I wanted to print it onto this specific shirt? What would you print into clothes?

In my next workshop at on 19th July we’ll be printing onto fabrics. I’ll be providing fabric squares and tote bags, but everyone is encouraged to bring clothes or any fabric pieces they’d like to print onto. We’ll spend the first part of the workshop creating a small lino block to print with, but I’ll also bring a range of bigger pre-carved designs that you can use for printing too. It’s going to be a great workshop and perfect for festival season too!

Elderflowers are out, time to pay a visit to some local trees to collect a few umbels. I love to make cordial (who doesn’t love elderflower cordial in summer??), but these naturally sweet flowers will make a gorgeous tea too especially combined with the nettles I dried earlier in the spring.

If you know a bit about elder & elderflower folklore, you might know the stories of witches being able to turn into elder trees, or that falling asleep beneath an elder might land you in the Otherworld with the fae. There’s a real darkness to them in some of the old tales.

On the flip side, I read recently about elderflowers being able to heal grief by opening one’s eyes to magic, and I found the idea so beautiful.

The sweetness and soothing nature of elder and elderflowers is always counterbalanced by a warning: overstep at your peril. The Elder Mother is not to be trifled with.

There’s a message of duality, of balance, which interestingly is just like the adder which I went down a bit of a rabbit hole researching lately (and ended up making my newest print). The folklore harks back to an ancient reverence, respect, reciprocity.

I hope you’ll go and find some elderflowers and experience their sweetness. Just make sure to square it with the Elder Mother first, ok?

What started as a very spontaneous, playful brush pen sketch of an adder has now become one of my biggest prints! 🐍 I wouldn’t consider myself much of a “snake person”, but for some reason I had an urge to find out more about British snakes, of which the adder is the only venomous one. I discovered that adders have the most beautiful markings and felt weirdly drawn to sketch one in my A3 sketchbook. Before I knew it I was transferring the design to Lino and carving a brand new print that I’ll be bringing with me to in July. I’m now keen to learn more about them, particularly the symbolism associated with them and how they are linked with Druidry.

A HUGE thank you to everyone who came to yesterday’s Printing with Recycled Materials workshop where we experimented with Tetra Pak printmaking.

I never tire of seeing the ingenuity and creativity that people have and the range of prints that were created from this unassuming (and at times temperamental) medium. I learn just as much in these workshops by seeing people exploring and playing, and how people approach new media and materials.

Thanks again to for hosting us in your breathtaking cafe and workshop space. I can’t wait for the next workshop already!

Using an old oat milk carton to make a ginkgo leaf print. Being drawn more and more to printing with Tetra Pak because of the varied and subtle colours and textures you can achieve with it. What do you think of these?

This Sunday!

The effects and versatility of making prints with old Tetra Pak oat milk cartons never ceases to surprise me and I can’t wait to share everything I know in my “Printing with Recycled Materials” workshop this Sunday, 1pm at Brixton.

There’s going to be a small group of us so I will be able to give everyone plenty of dedicated time and attention ☺️ I promise you’ll be amazed what you can create, plus is a beautiful space to work in and while away a creative afternoon xx
