WHAT MAKE US, US

Founded in 2007 by Clémence Pirajean and James Michael Lees, PIRAJEAN LEES is a London-based interior architecture, creative direction and bespoke editions studio. PIRAJEAN LEES’s projects encompass the private residential, retail and hospitality sectors internationally. With a holistic attitude to each unique project, we collaborate with people who share our passion for enhanci

ng lifestyles, and improving environments through spatial design. Clémence’s family are sculptors and creators, with roots in hospitality, which gave Clémence valuable insights into the industry from an early age. James comes from a line of architects and designers, and attributes his love for storytelling to his early career in film direction and production design.

NEW STORIES. OLD BEGINNINGS.

Each unique commission begins with finding a narrative. People and places come together in a creative thread woven through the project. That could be expressed in the geography of the surrounding landscape. The rediscovery of hidden architectural details. Sometimes, it’s simply by walking through an empty room; imagining what might have been, and now could be. TAILORED

Creatively and emotionally, it’s often the imperfections that spark our imagination – the stumbled-upon elements of the natural world which ignite creativity. An ancient tree reborn as a piece of furniture. A discarded piece of marble reshaped by craftsmanship. The quirks and texture of materials which don’t fit the mould, but ensure every PIRAJEAN LEES piece or space is as unique as it is sustainable – and always bespoke. For each project, every element plays an integral part. The building’s architectural DNA informs the aesthetic; the bespoke decorative items and overall customer experience. It has a lyrical quality – a sense of poetry that runs throughout the brand and interiors, down to the smallest details.

CREATIVE JOURNEYS

From the people we meet. The places we visit,. To the often subtle nuances that define and differentiate each new project. We are always learning and discovering. At every stage of our evolution, artists, makers and craftspeople have been a source of inspiration. These diverse experiences and intriguing stories picked up along the way form the fabric of what PIRAJEAN LEES is about. It’s a truly collaborative, creative journey that we invite our clients to join. This is our vision. This is what makes us, us.

Exposure. Unruly. Extrasensory.

Dragon-i reimagined, marks a new chapter for one of Hong Kong’s most iconic nightlife destinations. Lighting and sound are integral to the experience. Reflections, shadows and carefully considered acoustics allow the space to shift throughout the night. Moments appear, linger, then slip out of frame.

‘The studio founders, Clémence Pirajean and James Lees, begin every project with a period of intensive research and narrative building in order to prepare a script of feelings and intentions long before any images are developed. “We didn’t show Gilbert a mood board,” says Pirajean. “We told him the story about the character of the space, the feeling and the emotion of it.”’

‘“From the very beginning, we talked about cinematography,” says Lees, “how you create those snippets of memory that someone carries with them the next day… Everything is choreographed in a frame format.”’

Dragon-i, Hong Kong: Open now.
Interior Architecture and design by Pirajean Lees.

Inspired by the cinematic language of Hong Kong, the design layers nostalgia, emotion and theatricality. Each interior is conceived as a frame within a frame, capturing the energy and emotion of Hong Kong nightlife from the 1980s and 1990s, when the city’s clubs were at their most vibrant and unruly.

PRESS: , featured in Dezeen’s ‘Dragon-i renovation captures rebirth of the romantic side of Hong Kong’.

‘London studio Pirajean Lees worked closely with Yeung to transform the venue’s interior, which included the addition of a members’ club, fitting out the spaces with bespoke furniture designed by the studio.’

“Our goal from the beginning was to re-spark the sexiness and excitement, the ruggedness and roughness of the 1990s and early noughties.”

We are revealing our design for Dragon-i , Hong Kong’s legendary nightclub and addition of a new members’ club. Marking the studio’s first venture into the city’s nightlife, the project transforms the venue into two interconnected yet distinct experiences: a bold, experimental nightclub and an intimate, immersive members’ club.

“Dragon-i is more than a nightclub or a members’ club; it’s a cinematic experience, a stage, and a story. Our goal was to capture the energy and freedom of Hong Kong nightlife while creating spaces that are immersive, intimate, and alive.”
- Clémence Pirajean & James Lees, Founders of Pirajean Lees

“‘Listening bars offer something increasingly rare: a moment of pause,’ say designers Clémence Pirajean and James Lees. ‘In contrast to louder, more fast-paced venues, they centre around attentiveness — whether that’s to music, craft or the overall sensory experience.’”

DESIGN MASTERCLASSES: Clémence Pirajean on ‘The Future of Hospitality’.

“The luxury traveller is more discerning than ever. Guests are looking for a sense of belonging and unique character. This is where our narrative design process is adding true value to hospitality design, where the future is more about appreciating rarity than the comfort of predictability.”

“We work in a very analog way. Although we embrace that the future of hospitality is also intertwined with technology, when we incorporate technology, it’s seamless. We do not hinder the flow of guest experience by asking them to find the right button to press. The value design will always be judged by guest experience. We use technology to remove complications or friction for guests.”

Clémence was joined by Elena Verdera Pastor, associate at Studio Moren and Ruchika Rajani, associate designer at David Collins Studio . Moderated by Sophie Harper, editor of Hotel Designs.

Thank you to Hotel Designs, THG Paris, and Design Centre Chelsea Harbour.

Capturing the eccentricity of a vibrant chapter in Hong Kong’s cultural history – when streets were painted with neon pinks, yellows, and greens, mixed with gritty, faded walls and the bold high fashion of the era.
