Soy wax is a vegetable wax derived from soybean oil and is mainly used in candles. The oil is extracted from these flakes and then hydrogenated.

The main benefit of soy wax is that it is derived from soybean oil. It is a renewable, environmentally friendly alternative to paraffin wax. Because natural wax has a low impact on our environment, finished candles made from this type of wax can be marketed as a natural product. One of the main reasons why soy wax is better than paraffin is in fact the toxin-free wax and a non-polluting burn. Indeed this has little downsides like the fact that the scents are not as pregnant, since the toxins of paraffin don't exist and the absorption is harder in big containers.

It started with a simple form.

A tall candle.
Clean.
Almost silent.

But something in it was asking for more. Not decoration. Not another pretty detail placed there just to be seen. Something deeper. A break. An opening. A place where the material looked as if it had surrendered for a moment and revealed what it was holding inside.

That is how the pearls came in.

Not perfectly lined.
Not obedient.
Held there like a small light inside a raw surface.

The wax stayed warm.
The cement stayed cold.
And between them, the contrast I love most was born: feminine, but with weight. Delicate, but not fragile. Elegant, but with a little wildness underneath.

I did not want it to look like it came from a machine.

I wanted the hand to remain visible.
The rhythm.
The small imperfections.
That moment when an object stops being just an object and begins to have presence.

I have always found stillness in fire.

The moment I begin watching the flame dance, everything around me becomes quieter. Its movement draws me out of my thoughts and brings me back into the present.

This feeling lives at the heart of Soul Light Atelier.

Each piece of candle art is created not only to illuminate a room, but to interrupt autopilot—to create a sensual ritual of warmth, stillness and reconnection.

Sometimes, all we need is one flame and the permission to stop.

I thought Soul Light began in 2021.

But perhaps its story began long before I was born.

One evening, during a conversation with a friend about my life, we found ourselves speaking about my great-grandmother, Ecaterina.

She raised my mother in a home where money was scarce and electricity was a luxury they could not always afford.

My mother did her homework by candlelight.
They ate by candlelight.
They lived through evenings in which one small flame had to be enough.

And suddenly, something inside me understood.

Perhaps I have never been creating candles only for their beauty.

Perhaps, without knowing it, I have been returning to those evenings—trying to give my mother and Ecaterina a different kind of light. A light no longer born from hardship, but from beauty, warmth and choice.

I cannot change their past.

But through my hands, I can transform what that flame meant.

What once illuminated scarcity now becomes art.
What once helped them endure now invites us to feel, desire and be present.

Soul Light did not begin with wax.

It began with the women who came before me—and with a flame that refused to go out.

This is Soul Light Atelier.
My inheritance. My transformation. My light.

Officially in holiday mode! 🥂

Soul Light is taking a short break until 24 August, while I swap the atelier for a little holiday. I’ll be back on 25 August, recharged and ready to bring new creations to life. 🖤
