IRIS TIME 🕰️ 👀 Returning from a magical week in Switzerland having been invited to tender for public artwork in Zurich region, weaving Industrial landscape, Swiss textile heritage and audiences together through redevelopment of Neuthal Textile Museum🌾 Although I did not get it, I’m happy to have been nominated and to have proposed a series of nature based installations and accompanying Vermittlung programme.

For RHS Chelsea week, aka mid-late May 😝 Zurich showcased its finest nature spots, structured and seemingly rogue street planting - bringing joy across the city to people and insects alike I imagine. Here some highlights interspersed with couple proposed design drawings for the Kunst und Bau, friends met including brand new human bean🥰, artworks seen and berries, permaculture and tool set up.

I will be returning to create an installation as part of group exhibition at Berghof127 this June 💓🇨🇭🌾 Looking forward to sharing more!

Class-by-class telephone box bamboo floral design created with Madeley School students organised by with wonderful teacher MISS!

Class one designed the interior showcasing bamboo before class two developed wrap around ideas and class three considered some light portable landscaping and took the mop look to it’s natural conclusion! ☺️ Love it!

We will be working together to create this design for the Grade Two listed ❤️☎️ box in a couple of weeks.
Looking forward to sharing more!

Not selected by students to go forward, but visible in image two - I loved the curves and zigzags of a duo who (following an introduction into how to use a phonebox 👀🫶) visualised the process using flowers and bamboo. Zigzag are coins falling and curve the receiver going down 👌Wonderful!

Wonderful time yesterday with opening of Monty’s Garden ❤️💓 A Chelsea Flower Show Garden Proposition for 2028.

Curated by they brought together a thrilling show (sculpture, performance, do******ix) garden that had some on their knees!

Thanks for all the joy 🍀☘️ and here a glimpse of St. Peter Security watching over my Gatekeeper’s Gate and access into Fair. Gate dimensions variable, made of mixed floral media and choc coin wrappers forming bamboo medal portcullis of (taste) and excellence… Don’t forget to bow to enter!🐲

Here a few highlights snapped in diminishing light and performances marked with emojis and snippets remembered:

- Gatekeeper’s Gate
- Class green, Long Orange
- Seed Bonbon,
- ♠️ DIG FASTER
- Daydream, fell asleep beneath the flowers .emma
- Untitled (Undergrowth)
- 🐠💧Fountain led dance @

Sharing part of painting process here ❤️💙 blood pumping round this canvas - through Mum’s hand and mine - to be re-oxygenated.

I painted the first layers then Mum painted the second with help from 🩷

Been returned to the studio now and the back is full of pins. Wondering whether to keep the ribbons on, as is, or soften them down… mute them, now the exchange process / life process has been shared.

Canvas development started from sketches shown, with flowers chosen all beginning with letter of the rainbow and their meanings defining selection. Through all the colours LOVE! 🌈

WIP is titled “Patterns of the Universe: all the softness, all the inconsistencies.”

I want to create a record of combined gestures with Mum and engage in these collaborative shared works, copying and re-introducing her marks as parts of her slip with development of alzheimers. More paintings soon 🫶

Tristan Tzara Reviews the THERE-THERE School of English Dada
2018

Painting inspired by conversations with Romanian flatmate on Dada and performance work as TTTSofED in Zurich 2010-2016 and onwards. Could have cut down on the envisaged multi-coloured ravens, each one colouring vision to their own perspective with this found image of rainbow bird! 🌈

Happy May Day/s folks 🤗

The spaceship has landed 💚👽 and landed in front of other flowers!

This maquette was made for RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2026 and submitted as in partnership with and .mashimo

Together we planned to use Cornish grown species of giant bamboo and Kyoto 🎋 fence making expertise to create a seamless mind bending geometric display.

Our ‘Bamboozle Design’ proposed creation of a 3D visualisation of a 4D cube or ‘tesseract’, based on jungle gyms of mathematician Charles Howard Hinton who used DIY🎋climbing frames to introduce his children to 4D possibilities.

In line with Laboratory brief, design included somewhat clinical displays of upright iris, kangaroo paw, bamboo rhizomes and close cropped rhodedendron flowers, as well as mirror and infinity mirrored surfaces; a tail wrapping around piece absorbing itself in a further nod to 4D and dystopian or regenerative design = outlook dependent 🕶️

We would like to thank sponsors at who backed our potential designs two years running and this year would have paid for four Japanese fencemakers to work with us. Also want to thank Trebah and University of Falmouth product design course and students, with whom we would have returned and re-modelled install in Cornwall.

Although we came fourth with three pitches available (perhaps a critique on representing 4D design within 3D spacial reality?!) 💚🎋 living and learning with bamboo continues - on with the show and rhizomatic connecting!

‘A Novice’s Guide to Five Bamboo Works’

An illustrated introduction to - Takegaki - Japanese Fence Making 🎋💚

Report created for following my training with Akihiro Mashimo, mastercraftsman and director of bamboo studio

Introduction into:
- Kennin-ji gaki
- Take’eda ho gaki
- Yotsume gaki
- Ryōan-ji gaki
And bamboo well lid

On page two, text on phonescreen reads encouragingly: “Alice could do it too, if she knew how to use a machete!” 😂👌 Thanks

Get in touch if you are interested in work with bamboo and would like any help deciphering the instructions regarding creation of these sample bamboo fences. The JGS magasine Shakkei, published an edited version too which might be more followable! Always delighted to talk bamboo🎋🎋🫶

Thanks again to sponsors of trip The Japanese Garden Society, and

Where has January / February gone? BAGS! Everyday bags!

Two months of solid floor leaning - building on last years attempts across four spaces - have now finished documenting Mum’s collection, comprising approximately 10,000 plastic and paper bags.

Follow her collection as we look to exhibit and share it as an ephemera learning resource

💓 Big thanks to pictured and for help documenting
💪💪📸 for camera equipment and expertise
genius support in recognising significant graphic design / high street heritage bags and space ☺️ and for incubating space at start of project
