This morning, we are heading to to set up in Waterperry gardens, where the temperatures should be in the mid thirties.

And all I can think about is what cold drink to pour in the Hug pitcher. Maybe I should have a drink station on my stand, to cater for those struggling with the heat ? The pitcher contains about 2L so probably - and hopefully - not enough for all visitors, but it could make a few people happy ?

Let’s celebrate ceramics together !

Tomorrow, I’m heading to
Waterperry gardens, near Oxford. It will be taken on by over 100 potters and ceramic artists this weekend, from Friday 10th to Sunday 12th. The Desire jewellery and silversmith fair will also be on so why not make a day out of it ? Come and visit the beautiful gardens, have lunch and indulge in beautiful pots, silver and jewellery !

These little sip cups always seem happiest in pairs. Small enough for a quiet coffee or tea, or even maybe something stronger, but still rounded to nest comfortably into your hands.

Always perfectly imperfect, and occasionally sideways šŸ™ƒ

A deep and large carved Tatami bowl in this fine red Xing stoneware that caught a lot of eyes over the weekend. This one has come back home with me though, and will probably be making the journey to Waterperry next weekend.

It was such a lovely weekend at Shaftesbury. It was wonderful to catch up with fellow potters
Tine Hagen Dalgaard Ruth Readman Sharon Lea Lorraine Singer
Nancy Rose

and to meet so many new faces too Lorna Krosnar

Lucy Baxendale | Artist

Thank you to everyone who stopped by the stand, shared a conversation, or gave one of my pots a new home.

And a heartfelt thank you to Matt and the whole Potfest team. The amount of work, care and unseen effort that goes into making these events happen is enormous, and it’s something that is so easy to take for granted as exhibitors and visitors. Thank you for creating such a welcoming and well-run show.

The heat is likely to return this weekend, so I thought it would be the perfect time to introduce the newly expanded Hug family.

The Sip cup made its first appearance last month at Craft Festival. Designed for shorter drinks, espresso or a little something stronger, it has quickly become a favourite.

The Hug cup has been with me for quite some time now and has become a shape I really enjoy throwing and using at home. It’s the one I reach for most, whether for water, juice, tea, hot chocolate or coffee.

For the summer, though, I wanted something a little more convivial. That’s how the Pitcher was born. Made for drinks to share among friends, it holds roughly eight Hug cups, enough for a generous round.

And for hotter days, I wanted a statement vessel with an open and generous presence, equally at home holding ice, champagne, or taking centre stage on the table with a bunch of flowers. That’s how Kōri joined the family, taking its name from the Japanese word for ice.

So, what do you think? Tempting?

If so, come and see me this weekend at Potfest in Shaftesbury, my first time there. I am on Stand 57 with the whole Hug family🄰

Setting up starts this afternoon for Potfest in Shaftesbury.
I will do one last check this morning, making sure I haven’t forgotten to pack an essential piece of the stand jigsaw.

Those tea bowls will make the journey with me as I am planning a shelf with only tea bowls and cups: small Gong Fu cha tea cups, sencha cups, yunomi teabowls, pouring matcha bowls and proper ceremonial matcha tea bowls. I think whatever tea you are drinking, I will have you sorted :)

See you all tomorrow at 10am !

I snapped these shots yesterday evening after unloading a kiln filled with hug and sip cups. The light was beautiful, the air was breathable and the kiln had been really generous. These and more will all come to Shaftesbury with me this weekend :)
