Tea, cake and lovely chats with Alice May Wakefield on the menu again today. The studio will be open from 11am til 6pm, part of Art Plumstead trail of 60 makers/artists sprinkled around 29 venues. We are at number 2 :)

The sun is out, the air is mild and the studio is open today and tomorrow, from 11am til 6pm.

Alice May Wakefield and I will be here both days, showing our latest work. We’ve also put together a Summer sale table, with some seconds, samples and older work in need of a new home.

This event is part of Art Plumstead. We are number 2 out of 29 locations within this side of Greenwich borough.

A new tea bowl carrying a little of late summer’s wildness, available this weekend at my open studio.

This event is part of Art Plumstead Open Studios, where 60 makers and artists across Plumstead are opening their spaces to the public.

The studio will be open from 11am ’til 6pm and can be accessed through the big grey gates opening onto Shooters Hill Golf Course.

Alice May Wakefield will be sharing the space with me and will have some of her beautiful woodfired work too.

Come and say hi if you’re around. We’ll have tea and cake waiting for you 😋

A teapot, but not quite as we know it.

The gaiwan is one of the simplest and most beautiful tea vessels in Chinese tea culture. Its name means “lidded bowl”, and unlike a conventional teapot, it has no handle or spout.

Yet, it serves much the same purpose: tea leaves are brewed directly in the bowl, with the lid used to hold them back as the tea is poured.

I love the intimacy of this way of brewing. You can watch the leaves unfurl, follow their changing aroma, and adjust each infusion with just a small movement of the lid.

There is something very satisfying about a form being reduced to exactly what it needs to be. A bowl. A lid. And some tea leaves.

Before I left the studio for my summer break, I quickly gave a try to this long, thin and untrimmed hakeme brush by Jamie from .broomworks.

It won’t give as much covering as the ones I’m used to, but it has a great energy for smaller pieces, or for more calligraphic marking.

Jamie’s hakeme brushes will be soon available to buy through .

These ramen bowls didn’t wait around long. They left the studio the morning after being fired. I should have more of them available this weekend for Art Plumstead.

My studio will be open both Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 from 11am til 6pm. This year, Alice May Wakefield will be showing her beautiful work alongside mine.

I will be bringing some new hug and sip cups in moody black and muddy green, to Independent Ceramics Market on Sep 13.

Come and find a crowd of around 150 ceramic makers in Copeland park, lodged behind Peckham high street in London, for what is probably my favourite ceramic event in the capital.
