My first IKEA flip!
Upgraded the Stall Shoe Cabinet and loving how it turned out!
Process:
- Removed metal inset handles
- Scuffed all surfaces with sandpaper
- Added 1/4 " thick x 1.5" strips of poplar to drawer faces
- Applied 1 coat of Zinser 123 primer
- Applied 2 coats of Behr semi gloss paint in Pine Mountain color (used a paint sprayer)
- Assembled and added antique gold brushed handles
- Added wood top made of hickory (sanded, stained, and sealed with poly acrylic)

I wanted a sideboard in my dining room but didn’t have much depth. I used 3 Hemnes shoe cabinets, cut the legs down to hide behind the skirting board, filled the side gap with one of the tops then added a cut oak worktop for the full length. The cabinets fit placemats, tablecloths, napkins & wine! Love the end result.

I really wanted a kitchen island but couldn’t justify paying the money to have one installed so i did one myself 🤣 this was made using a Knoxhult base unit from Ikea. For the worktop i used 2 thick bits of MDF which i got from B&Q, they cut them to size for me, i glued them on top of one another to get the thickness and then wrapped the whole thing in vinyl. Finally, i painted it and added the handles & barstools. I’m so pleased with it 🥰 kitchen island without the big price tag! 🙌🏼
