Another from . The fabric is an up-cycled saree. Dress and fabric were the perfect choices for a celebration dinner.
Pre-loved sarees make ideal dress fabrics because you have over 5 m of material to play with, plus there may be an unused blouse piece too. Make sure your saree has the pico done, I.e. the raw edges have been finished. This means you don’t necessarily have to hem the sleeves, skirt etc. depending on pattern piece placement and you can make the most of any decorative pattern. Your saree may also have a fall, a 12 - 15 cm strip of (cotton) fabric running along the lower edge of some of the saree. This protects the bottom of the saree where it touches the ground and this too can be made use of.
However, the looser weave of saree fabric means a lining is required for fitted bodices etc. And I struggled with the fluid nature of this lovely turquoise material … tweed doesn’t usually move around and if it does I interface it! I lined this dress with organic cotton muslin which was almost as problematic as the saree fabric 🫣😊

Sixty minutes of unpicking stitches and re-sewing seams, trying to remember how I made these fingerless gloves last year. I have written a list of instructions on the pattern so I don’t forget again … fingers crossed I don’t lose the pattern 😬🧤

I am slowly stocking it with my creations starting with journal covers and quilts and over the coming weeks I will add darning kits, fingerless gloves, lavender scented horses and bags, of course. Enjoy browsing 🥰

Preparing for my recent Aberglasney exhibition sparked a whole new creative adventure: sewing horses 🧵🐴

I am so glad to be able to combine my lifelong passion for horses with my love for sewing. There is something truly special about watching these little equines come to life stitch by stitch!

Every day is a school day I’m told and today I was back in the classroom striving how to learn the basics of … at times I felt I just did not have enough fingers nor the eyesight to find where my needle had pierced the fabric. I ended the day on a good note in that the mirror remained attached to the cloth … albeit obscured behind an unsightly knot of thread. Still, tomorrow’s another day and the classroom awaits me again.
