This week, I received an email from a past customer letting me know they were unsubscribing from my newsletter because it looked like I only focused on beginner sewing classes.

They told me it was a shame because when they came to me with a sewing problem, I was able to help them understand what was going wrong and how to fix it. And honestly? They were right.

I’ve spent so much time promoting my beginner workshops that I’ve accidentally given the impression that’s all I teach.

The reality is that every week I work with sewists of all levels, from complete beginners to those tackling more complex garments and patterns.

I’m really grateful they took the time to bring this to my attention because it’s made me realise I need to do a better job of sharing that side of my business.

So, if you’re an experienced sewist, I’d love to hear from you. What workshops would you like to see me run this September? (Bonus points if they don’t involve pattern drafting 😅.)

One of my favourite things about holiday club is watching children discover what they’re capable of. Some arrive never having touched a sewing machine before and leave confidently making their own projects just a few days later.

I’m so proud of every child who joined us this week and grateful to all the parents who trust us with their creative little people.

Summer sewing camp dates are now available and we’d love to welcome some new faces (and plenty of familiar ones too).

Yesterday was the final after-school and weekend sewing lesson of the term.

Thank you to all of the children who joined us this term. We’ve made so much progress, learned lots of new skills, and created some brilliant projects along the way.

Enjoy a well-earned half-term break, and I look forward to seeing you all back in the studio soon to finish off your current projects and start some exciting new ones.

Tiny compared to other sewing studios, but honestly the perfect size for me. I always wanted to create a sewing space that feels cosy, calm and familiar — somewhere people feel comfortable to learn, create and take their time.

I’ve also really enjoyed writing articles, filming sewing videos and setting up the WhatsApp group so everyone can keep sewing, ask questions and feel supported between workshops.

And thank you so much to everyone who has already joined the Sewing Hub subscription and supported this new little part of On A Sew. I’m really excited to keep building it with you all.

If you’ve been wanting to learn to sew, may I suggest starting with one of these workshops. No previous sewing experience needed and perfect for complete beginners.

Our Abaya Workshop was requested by a few lovely ladies who already attend some of my other classes. For anyone wondering, an abaya is a loose flowing dress traditionally worn for comfort, coverage and everyday wear. This workshop is a calm and supportive introduction to sewing garments and creating something beautiful for yourself.

Our Bag Workshop is perfect for beginners wanting to practise sewing straight lines while learning lots of sewing basics along the way.

The Simple Top Workshop is a great introduction to garment making and a lovely next step once you feel ready to sew clothing.

In our Introduction to Zips Workshop, you’ll learn how to make a small lined zip pouch in 2.5 hours. This one is ideal if you’ve already attended our Introduction to Sewing Workshop and want a little challenge while building your confidence.

And finally, our Flower Bag Workshop
Not only will you learn how to sew your own flower carrier bag, but you’ll also get to choose a bouquet from our selection of freshly bought flowers to take home. I’m honestly so excited about this one!

Our Introduction to Sewing Workshop is the perfect place to start if you’re completely new to sewing or want to build confidence using a sewing machine.

In this 2 hour workshop you’ll learn:
• how to thread and use a sewing machine
• sewing basics and must-know tips
• straight stitching and simple finishing techniques
• while making your own small pouch to take home

All machines, tools and guidance are included. Lessons are kept small so there’s plenty of support throughout the session.
