I wasn’t intending to post this today but… Facebook memories has reminded me of our first ever published project which was featured in House Beautiful Magazine’s February 2021 edition and I thought that sometimes, it is good to look back and see how far you have come. I heard recently (sorry, I cannot find the source to credit) that you shouldn’t compare your step 1 with someone else’s step 10 and that really resonated with me, especially in light of all of the lovely feedback I have received from my Career Shifting article - thank you so much for that! So, this is a bit of a ramble but I am sticking it here as a reminder to myself and to anyone else who needs it that it’s all a process and you just have to keep going!

Are you thinking about a career change? For many, January is a time for reflection and it’s no coincidence that I decided to change careers in February a few years ago. I spoke to the Career Shifters (who can provide support if you are looking to change direction) at the end of last year and shared my own experience of changing careers. Swipe if you’d like to read some of what I had to say - the full article is linked below and covers lots, from how I financed my move to what I wish I had done differently…. If you have any questions then feel free to ask below or send me a message. This comes with the huge caveat that I am not professing to be an expert here, I am only talking about my personal experience!

BESPOKE KITCHEN BANQUETTE installed just in time for Christmas…. scroll to see the early sketches and the final product. We went for storage underneath with a “lift up seat”, an extra thick seat cushion (with contrast piping) and a back cushion for addition comfort. This banquette was part of a full service interior design project but we can also work on discrete, one off projects if you are looking for help on a smaller scale.

360° bathroom tour. The problem solving edition!

As interior designers we’re also problem solvers so we love it when a challenging brief comes along…. This bathroom was a joy to work on with great clients but it did come with a few challenges for us to navigate. A modest size and sloping ceiling are always tricky in a family bathroom but this one had some less common features to work around, read on to see how we got on…

1. A curved wall can be a conundrum in a bath/shower area but don’t rule out regular sized tiles. We used 5x15cm rectangle tiles which could be neatly worked around the curved wall.

2. The loft access hatch sat in the bathroom and moving it was not a viable option. This made one of the only full height walls in the room potentially unusable so we designed a bespoke “shelf door” to provide additional storage whilst retaining access. The brass bars were a practical addition because who has time to remove items off the shelf to open the door?! (swipe to image 3 to see it open).

3. Our clients needed a lot of storage so we deliberately made the vanity generous in size. We designed a deep cupboard behind the mirror (stealing space from the loft behind) to optimise the storage space.

4. Our clients wanted one shower curtain that would follow the curve of the bath. Typically the shower rail support arm would prevent this, but we worked closely with our manufacturer to design a bespoke shower rail which could hold the weight of the shower curtain and give our clients what they wanted (just seen in image 5).
