✋🛑 This is the thing nobody tells you when you’re planning a renovation.
By the time the tools come out, most of the decisions that will define how your home looks and feels for the next twenty years have already been made. Or worse - not made at all.
🏡 The layout that makes the kitchen feel slightly too tight? Decided on paper months ago.
The lighting that can never be fixed without replastering? Designed - or not designed- before a single wall went up.
🔌 The sockets in the wrong place. The doors that swing the wrong way. The radiator that sits exactly where the sofa needs to go.
None of these are building mistakes. They are planning mistakes. And I know this because I spend part of every year working with clients who renovated without a designer, and are now paying more to resolve it than the original design fee would ever have cost. And it is far more common than you think.
But here’s what I also know.
The clients who come to me before they speak to a builder? They don’t feel apprehensive about their renovation. They feel excited. Because they have a clear, considered plan - one that accounts for how they actually live, how the light moves through their home, how every decision connects to the next. They know exactly what they’re getting before a single wall goes up.
That confidence is not luck. It is the result of the right conversation at the right time.
If your about to renovate and are feeling the weight of the investment, unsure where to start, not wanting to get it wrong, the time to speak to a designer is before you speak to a builder. Always.
