Before building my new storage console, it had been nearly a year since I’d made anything new for my apartment, and let me tell you, the itch was REAL 😅

I am also partial to a bit of procrastination, and the thought of turning my flat upside down and cutting wood inside, behind dust sheet curtains wasn’t exactly appealing 😬

But, as always the stress and mess was totally worth it. I find building so rewarding, and learning how to work with new tools and materials is a big part of that.

Anyone out there hesitant to pick up tools for the first time? What’s putting you off? Or maybe you have a skill you’ve recently learned that you’re super proud of?

Please share in the comments if you feel comfortable!

Part one of, I’m not sure how many tbh 😅

In part two I’m gonna be tackling the wood veneer. Honestly, I was so scared of f***ing it up. The pressure was real. But, I’m gonna show you what I learned and what tools I used, as lots of you have been asking.

And if you wanna see the console as it is now in more detail (still have doors and table hinge to add), then go check out my last reel — a collab with (Ad), who supplied me with the awesome red furniture paint I used for this project ❤️

Oh, and did anyone spot the mistake in the voiceover? 🤦🏼‍♀️

Any qns, drop me a comment ✌🏻

Beyond thrilled with my feature in this Sunday’s 🙌🏻

The interview with was so relaxed and joyful, and I think that really comes across in the write-up.

So grateful to have the platform to share my love of colourful creativity with you all. Even just inspiring a handful of you to experiment with bold colours or to pick up power tools for the first time, makes it all worth it 💪🏻🌈❤️

If you’re struggling to read the text in the second photo, the digital article is linked in my Features story highlight.

AD: Did you know Valspar can match an incredible 2.2 million colours? Mind officially blown! 🤯

Simply head to the paint mixing desk in your local and have any item scanned—a treasured keepsake, favourite fabric, or even a cupboard door!

Valspar can bring the colours you love to life, in paint form. Or if you’re still undecided about which colours to use, you can pick from 2000 pre-selected colour chips.

Why not channel your inner interior designer and take them home and build your own mood board? 👩🏼‍🎨

I’ve always found the range of colours available in furniture paint really limiting, so discovering that had added their Premium Multi-Surface Interior and Furniture Paint to their paint mixing line-up was an absolute game-changer. The coverage was great, and I’m sooooo happy with the finish.

So, has this got your creative cogs turning? Do you have an unloved piece of furniture that deserves a lick of paint? Leave a comment and share your ideas—and most importantly, what would be your colour?

Did you see the two part tour I shared of the in Tokyo? This was the strangest architecture tour I’ve ever been on!

This apartment complex was designed by artists Shusaku Arakawa and Madeline Gins, who explored the theory that where you live could slow or even reverse your path to death. Check out my reels if you want to know more.

Few bits of info relating to the photos:

🌈 Wherever you stand, inside your apartment or in the outside communal spaces, you can always see a minimum of 6 colours

🌈 The apartment we toured can be rented on and featured in the TV show ‘Girls’

🌈 The bumpy and sloped flooring everywhere is designed to make you more aware of your surroundings (and therefore more present). You have to move around slowly and consider every step.

🌈 Hanging from the ceiling hooks is the only way to store your belongings

🌈 The artists intended to build a Reversible Destiny Hotel (see photo 7), but this was never realised

So, would you trade things like a comfy sofa, wardrobes and a shower with privacy (😂) for a potentially longer life?

Would you trade comfortable living for a longer life? Interesting question, right?!

Honestly, I have so much insight on why these apartments were designed like this, it was hard to know what to include in this part 2 tour. So, I’m considering a part 3. I’ll do a question sticker on my stories for your suggestions, but drop me a comment here if there’s anything you’d like me to cover.

Maybe a closer look at the ‘Directions For Use’? Some of the exercises the artists who designed these apartments asked their residents to undertake were absolutely wild.

Email the team at if you’re heading to Tokyo and want to book a tour. I highly recommend it!

A life-long sufferer 😂

OK, little IRL update for you guys….

I’m writing this caption on Friday afternoon, sitting on my sofa, and opposite me is the giant storage console I’ve been building over the last couple of weeks. I bought this really cool walnut burl veneer for it (and paid to ship it from Germany), and this weekend I’m gonna be sticking the veneer to all faces.

I’ve only applied veneer once before and that was on one flat surface. WHAT COULD POSSIBLY GO WRONG?! I’m so tense 😬😂 Cross everything.

I spotted this colourful apartment complex out of a bus window, as we headed out to visit Mt Fuji, and we were so lucky to book a tour two weeks later before we flew home.

I was expecting there to be some cool photo ops, but I wasn’t prepared for all the surreal features! Our guide was awesome and had us do a bunch of experiments that tested our perceptions of the space and how we interacted with it. If you’re planning a trip to Tokyo, definitely seek this place out and book a tour, it was well worth the money!

In part 2, I’ll be sharing some snippets from the ‘Directions for Use’ each resident is given when moving in. It’s kinda wild, won’t lie!
