During the summer I make the trip back to Trim in Ireland to catch up with family and friends. It's one of those places that never loses its charm, especially when the sun is shining.

As someone who loves architecture and design, I'm always inspired by the layers of history here. From the magnificent Norman castle -the largest in Ireland -to the medieval ruins and beautiful setting along the River Boyne, there's something to admire around every corner.

Sometimes it's good to step away from the studio, slow the pace for a few days and enjoy the places that have shaped who we are. 🌻

Taking time to review the business, celebrate the wins, acknowledge the challenges, and reflect on the lessons learned is something I always value.

Great weekend trip to the seaside town of Deal in Kent 🌊😎 Our first visit but not the last. Reminded me of Whitstable but without the crowds. Great food options and interesting independent interior shops. I even ventured into the sea for a dip and it wasn't too cold - a pleasant surprise 👙

It’s that time of year again – my annual visit to WOW!house. As always, it’s an inspiring celebration of exceptional interior design, craftsmanship and creativity.

Interestingly, it was the smaller, more intimate rooms that captured my attention this year. The Garden Folly Room by Studio Enass, the Lalique Home Bar by Elicyon and The Hidden Bar in the Speakeasy Salon by Studio Duggan were my standout spaces.

Each created an atmosphere that invited you to pause and stay a while. Richly layered, beautifully detailed and wonderfully atmospheric, they balanced luxury with intimacy in a way that felt effortless. These weren't just beautifully designed rooms—they were immersive spaces that evoked emotion and left a lasting impression. It was a reminder that sometimes the most memorable interiors aren't the grandest, but those that make you feel completely at home within them. 😃

Had a lovely evening at the annual Pimlico Road Summer Party last Thursday. It’s always such a lovely event – even though I have to admit I did think twice before going out in the 36 degree heat!

There’s nothing like meeting suppliers and seeing what’s new on the market, seeing the products up close and also having a catch-up with fellow designers and people working in the interiors trade. 😁

It’s always rewarding to look back on a completed project and see how a vision has come to life. These images showcase the open-plan living, dining and kitchen space of a recently completed apartment refurbishment in Ealing.

The brief was to transform a newly converted Victorian apartment -beautiful but somewhat lacking in character - into a warm, comfortable and personal home. Having spent many years working abroad, our clients wanted a space where they could truly put down roots and express their own style.

A key priority was introducing much-needed storage, something often in short supply in apartment living. Bespoke joinery became a defining feature of the design, allowing us to maximise functionality, while creating a cohesive and elegant interior.

Custom pieces included a media unit, living room cabinetry, a dedicated bar and wine area, open shelving, a generous dining bench with integrated storage, and an extension to the existing kitchen cabinetry.

The result is a home that feels welcoming, practical and uniquely tailored to the people who live there.

At nearly 3 metres, yes I think this is the longest bespoke bench seat that I've designed. It fits perfectly into the wide alcove of this Ealing apartment and provides ample seating for entertaining. It also provides a lot of really useful storage under the seat - something that's often forgotten in apartment designs. Thanks to Tim for making the joinery

For the article, I was asked for some professional advice on designing indoor/outdoor spaces, and how to make a seamless connection to the outdoors.

Here are some of the tips below:-

1. Key design elements for a seamless indoor–outdoor space

A seamless space relies on continuity rather than having contrast. This can relate to having the same flooring running inside to outside and having a unified style of lighting and furniture both inside and outside. Also, having level thresholds between inside and outside will make the journey and sightlines between spaces seamless.

2. Creating the effect without bi-fold doors or a large garden

I have found that a good trick for this is having plants or a mainly green colour palette inside which helps blur the lines between both spaces. It creates the effect of ‘pulling’ the garden inside. This can be used in areas without direct access to a garden space and can be used equally well on upper floor levels or apartments balconies.

3. Biggest mistakes and how to avoid them

I would say that some common errors are treating the design of the outdoor space as an afterthought rather than blending it with the interior space, ignoring climate practicality and having mismatching styles. If you think of the outdoor space as an extension of your indoor living space while considering comfort, durability, climate practicality and maintaining consistent design language, you can’t go wrong.
