We love seeing the unbelievable ways our supplies are brought to life, and this 1:50 scale model of Askham Bog in Yorkshire by Victoria Maytom () is a stunning example.
Commissioned by the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust () for their 80th anniversary, this model represents a vital site of scientific interest, bringing the reserve to life for the public while it undergoes conservation. Sir David Attenborough once described this peatland reserve as a cathedral of nature conservation, and Victoria has captured that magic perfectly in miniature.
The build features an accessible boardwalk crafted from oiled manila card and balsa wood, set against a resin pond pour with sprinkled flocking for pondweed. Victoria used twisted wire, latex, and flocking for the trees, alongside hand-cut and laser-cut paper plants to represent specific local flora, including royal fern, rare sedge, water violet, marsh orchid, alder, and oak.

Along the edges, layers of peat, York moraine, and alne are recreated using textured paper to show how the earth below supports the wildlife above.
