Each piece of blown glass begins with a gather from the furnace🍥

It is an intrinsic part of glassblowing and a practiced skill by which you have to collect the molten hot glass at the end of your blowing iron, letting the excess glass trail off in order to gather the exact amount you need. Imagine doing this in a super hot environment, and also in the heat wave we have right now. It’s is akin to a glass artist balancing molten glass while doing hot yoga in a sauna, but glass artist make it look easy. 🔥

How do glass artist stay cool in this heat? Ice, frozen towels, cold shower… some even drink hot drinks!

Experimenting with process here and how to be super efficient and make use of EVERY single piece of glass in our studio.

In a moment of contemplation, it can feel frivolous to put together these little shots of our studio. (Excuse the amateur filming.) However it seems more than ever we need to shout about how much effort and preparation goes into every piece and to show on multiple levels how hard our team has been working. So here’s a little behind the scenes of our pieces and any support you can give our business is much appreciated.

A like, a comment, a follow, a recommendation, a repost goes a long way 💙

What is a pastorale you ask??? The term “pastorale” (sometimes spelled pastoralle or called a pastorelli). In glassblowing essentially it’s a Venetian glass term for a specialised steel fork of sorts which transports pieces of glass on a kiln shelf to and from the heat to create complex patterns or colour which can then be made into whatever form that you are trying to achieve.

Spritz time 🥒

Flux tumblers and cocktail glasses are crafted using copper leaf and blown in our hot shop, the copper oxidises to reveal the bubbly and effervescence of the combined materials. Our goal is to delve into the ocean and create a joyful addition to your home.
