The difference between a ‘look’ and a ‘legacy.’ 🧵🔍

When you see a Gabbeh today, it’s often a mass-produced reproduction—stiff, uniform, and chemically dyed. But this is the real deal: an antique Bakhtiari Gabbeh.

Notice the use of undyed wool. This isn’t a design choice made for trend-following; it is the honest, raw expression of the weaver’s environment. There is no artificial color, only the natural variegation of the sheep’s fleece—warm, creamy, and deep with character.

These were woven for the tent, not for the showroom. They are thick, plush, and possess a spontaneity in design that no machine or modern factory can replicate. When you own a piece like this, you aren’t just buying decor—you are preserving a vanishing tradition of nomadic weaving.

There is a quiet beauty in the ‘preloved.’ 🌿✨

This antique Heriz runner wears its history on its sleeve—or rather, in its pile. It hasn’t just been sitting in a room; it’s been part of a home for generations. That slight thinning and the softening of those signature Heriz tones aren’t flaws; they are the evidence of a rug that has been loved.
A rug that is perfectly ‘new’ feels sterile. A rug that has lived? It brings a sense of soul and warmth to a hallway that mass-produced carpets just cannot replicate. The colors are deeper, the design has settled, and the history is tangible

Are you someone who loves the perfect, crisp look, or do you prefer pieces that tell a story? Let’s hear your take. 👇

Honoring the master of English design: Charles Voysey. 🌿✨

When we set out to reproduce Voysey’s iconic botanical work, we knew that ‘near enough’ wasn’t good enough. Through unwavering dedication to traditional hand-knotting and a palette of natural pigments, we have captured the graceful, organic rhythm that defined the late 19th-century Arts and Crafts movement.

Look closely at the bold leaf motifs framing this cream-ground masterpiece—every curve is a homage to the same silhouettes that once graced the halls of Liberty London.

Why Voysey? Because his work—influenced by William Morris and beloved by the French Art Nouveau masters—remains the gold standard for harmonious, nature-inspired design.
This isn’t just a focal point for a room; it’s a piece of design history.
* Details: Hand-knotted, high-quality wool, natural dyes.
* Dimensions: Unique generous width.

DM to inquire about provenance and private viewing.

Stones, milk, bread, and wild thyme. 🏔️
This is the recipe for Sang-Dagh, the meal of the nomadic shepherds in parts of Iran. It is a tradition of pure resourcefulness—using the heat of the earth to sustain life.

The biggest myth in the rug world? That every antique piece costs a fortune. 💸

This is an antique Bakhtiari Gabbeh, and it is a rare find. Most people see the word ‘antique’ and assume the price will be in the tens of thousands. In reality, tribal pieces like this offer incredible value.

Look at that beautiful two-tone effect—a design that feels remarkably modern and minimalist despite being over a century old. It’s a perfect reminder that great art doesn’t always come with a museum-level price tag. You don’t need a massive budget to own a piece of Persian heritage; you just need to know where to look

The art of the unplanned. 🎨✨

This is an exceptionally rare Bakhshayesh carpet from the second half of the 19th century. What separates a Bakhshayesh from other regional rugs is its soul. While other workshops were producing rigid, symmetrical patterns, the Bakhshayesh weavers were creating ‘paintings’ in wool.
Notice the decorative, almost fluid design—it’s fascinating how the weaver chose to break symmetry, trusting their instinct over a fixed pattern. When you pair that artistic freedom with 150-year-old natural dyes, you get a rug that feels less like decor and more like a captured moment of 19th-century history

Are you drawn to the strict symmetry of city rugs, or the free-spirited beauty of pieces like this? Tell us in the comments. 👇

The most critical stitch you will never see. 🧵🔒

When an antique rug begins to fray, it isn’t just losing its fringe—it’s losing its foundation. Because hand-knotted rugs rely on tension, losing the end means the knots can slide right off the warp threads like beads on a broken string.

That is why the art of putting in stop-ends (hand-overcasting) is the absolute foundation of rug restoration. It looks like a simple line of stitching, but it requires precise, rhythmic tension to lock the final rows of knots permanently in place.

Without a masterfully executed stop-end, any cosmetic repair you do to a fringe is just a temporary band-aid. True conservation starts by securing the anchor.

Check the ends of your rugs—if you see individual knots loose, it’s time for a stop-end before the pattern is lost. 📩

Let’s put the art market into perspective. 🏛️📊

At the Christie’s April 2026 sale, Lot 174 shattered its £35K estimate, selling for just over £69K (£69,850). On paper, it’s an auction victory. In reality? It was an absolute bargain.
The object is a colossal, rare Antique Silk Heriz carpet. The defining detail? It is DATED. In the antique world, a woven inscription is the ultimate premium—it is a documented, verified timestamp of living history.

Consider what happened roughly 150 years ago: a team of master weavers spent years hand-tying millions of individual silk knots to engineer a carpet of this scale. It survived a century and a half of light, dust, and history to reach us in magnificent condition.
Now, look at the price tag. For £69K, you couldn’t buy a minor sketch by a mid-tier modern artist or a bronze sculpture from the same era.

Tell me in the comments: Do you think £69K is an accurate reflection of this level of human history and craftsmanship, or is the textile market completely undervalued?

Full video breakdown of Lot 174 and its engineering coming soon. Stay tuned.

Restoring the ‘DNA’ of an antique Caucasian. 🧵🏛️

The end of a rug is its most vulnerable point. If the foundation unravels, the entire structure is compromised. We’re currently reweaving the ends of this antique Caucasian, meticulously recreating the original flat-weave finish to match the tension and fiber of the 19th-century weave.
It’s about more than just aesthetics; it’s about securing the rug’s life for the next hundred years. Bringing a masterpiece back to its former glory—one thread at a time.
