Usually held in South London, Midcentury Modern is making a special one-day appearance at Mason & Fifth in Westbourne Park.

Just a short tube ride from Central London, it’s the perfect weekend destination—whether you’re looking for unique pieces for your home or simply fancy browsing a beautifully curated event.

We’ll be bringing a selection of Japanese antiques, mingei folk crafts, contemporary ceramics, and handcrafted objects sourced from across Japan.

✨ Introducing a New Artist – Ryota Matsumoto ✨
We’re delighted to welcome the works of Ryota Matsumoto to Sansho.
With bold carvings, hollowed forms, and the powerful texture of wood-fired ceramics,
his pieces evoke the presence of ancient rocks and weathered trees shaped by nature over time.
Whether used as vases, sake ware, or simply displayed as sculptural objects,
these works quietly transform the atmosphere of a space.
There is a rare balance of rawness and stillness in Matsumoto’s unique artistic vision.

When people first hear that this glassy blue glaze is made from mandarin orange trees,
they can hardly hide their surprise.
Japanese ceramicists are known for creating glazes from everyday materials,
but even we were amazed when we first learned this story —
who would imagine such a beautiful blue emerging from orange trees?
Kobo Daidai takes its name from “daidai,”
a type of mandarin orange, and also a colour associated with citrus.
This unique glaze was born while caring for an abandoned mandarin farm,
left behind after the family business closed —
transforming what remained into something entirely new.
The stoneware itself is carefully polished to a silky-smooth finish,
irresistible to the touch.
Striking even when simply placed on a shelf,
these pieces quietly draw the eye.
Simple yet vivid, refined yet full of character —
a rare balance of contrasts.
It’s the kind of piece whose unexpected beauty never fails to delight
the person who receives it.
