We're delighted to be featured in The Telegraph, sharing our thoughts on how thoughtful design can transform a kitchen without the need for major structural changes.

As Isobel Hussey of 202 design explains, successful kitchens begin with understanding how the space will be used. By carefully considering layout, storage, light, materiality and proportion, it’s often possible to completely reshape the feel of a room while working within its existing footprint.

The feature follows one of our recent Chelsea projects, designed in collaboration with where a layered palette of Arabescato Verde marble, dark-stained oak and hand-painted cabinetry transformed a previously characterless space into a kitchen full of warmth and personality.

A closer look at one of our most enduring kitchen designs.

Hand-painted 202 design cabinetry, un-lacquered brass and Arabescato Oro Verde stone come together in a palette that feels both restrained and richly layered. Arched forms, natural light and carefully balanced proportions soften the architecture, creating a space that feels calm, refined and deeply connected to the way it is lived in.

A kitchen where every detail has been thoughtfully resolved, from material choice to layout, craftsmanship and flow.

Behind carefully considered cabinetry, integrated storage solutions help keep everyday life feeling calm, organised and effortless. From concealed larders and internal shelving to tailored drawer configurations and hidden preparation spaces, every detail is designed around how the kitchen is truly used.

In our showroom, functionality is thoughtfully integrated into the architecture of the space, allowing practical elements to disappear seamlessly behind refined materials and bespoke joinery.

Because the most enduring kitchens are not only beautiful to look at, but intuitive to live with.

This kitchen was designed to feel quietly connected to its surroundings.

Positioned beside large glazed doors overlooking the garden, the space is filled with natural light throughout the day, softening the hand-painted cabinetry and highlighting the subtle movement within the Arabescato surfaces.

Dark-stained oak accents and aged brass detailing bring depth and warmth, while the generous island creates an easy, informal place for cooking, gathering and everyday living.

In this East Wittering kitchen, texture, materiality and natural light shape the atmosphere throughout the day. Reeded walnut cabinetry introduces depth and subtle movement, while warm timber surfaces and aged brass accents create a space that feels both refined and deeply welcoming.

Designed with restraint and careful consideration, the kitchen balances contemporary simplicity with a warmth that feels enduring and lived-in.

There’s a reason marble has remained at the centre of timeless interiors for centuries.

Its beauty lies not in perfection, but in variation, soft veining, tonal movement and the individuality of every slab bringing depth and character to a space.

Whether used to create a sculptural island, a dramatic backsplash or quieter architectural moments, marble introduces a sense of permanence and luxury that few materials can replicate.

At 202, we carefully consider how each stone is selected, positioned and paired with surrounding materials, ensuring it feels balanced, enduring and deeply connected to the home it sits within.

Do you prefer bold, expressive veining or something softer and more understated?

Natural light pours through the bay windows of this London kitchen, illuminating the richness of the materials and the quiet restraint of the design.

A sculptural Calacatta Borghini marble island forms the centrepiece of the space, balanced by lime-washed oak cabinetry, aged brass detailing and softly layered textures throughout.

Designed in collaboration with this kitchen blends contemporary craftsmanship with the character of the home’s original architecture, creating a space that feels both refined and deeply inviting.

At 202 design, our approach to bespoke joinery extends far beyond the kitchen.

Throughout this Hertfordshire home, each space has been carefully designed to balance function, materiality and atmosphere, from the warmth of oak and rattan dressing room cabinetry to a sculptural timber bar, a hardworking hidden pantry and a calm, considered boot room.

Elsewhere, bespoke shelving and architectural detailing bring depth and character to the formal living spaces, creating a sense of cohesion across the home while allowing each room to feel entirely individual.

Every piece is designed specifically for the way our clients live, ensuring beauty and practicality exist in equal measure.
