A quick 20 min still life study with my girls. I'm way out of practice but I was very impressed with theirs! I love the way my youngest ignored the grouping and drew the objects in a line, and with shadows! 😁 Great observation also from her older sister of some tricky forms.

To an adult it's just a piece of packaging to be recycled, but in the hands of a 7 year old creative genius, it can be a rucksack, a hammock, a bag, a sling and a hand-warmer. Love you Xenia ❤️ never stop creating and designing and re-using X.

Halloween is approaching, so we made some hanging bats today from good old cardboard tube and paper wings with pipe cleaner legs to hang from. Black paint, googly eyes and pointy ears. We all discussed what we knew about bats as we worked. Great fun.

As it's Autumn, we used leaves to create some art yesterday. We stuck leaves on a piece of card and stuck a sheet of tough silver foil on top. Then we rubbed the foil flat to reveal leaf shape and details. Then sprayed lightly with white paint and then rubbed some paint away. Using autumnal coloured crayons we picked up leaf detail and then rubbed excess crayon away, building up a layered texture.

So yesterday we created some art that was influenced by the work of the Austrian artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser. We looked at how he made faces and copied this fun style using watercolours, crayon and collage. We also used tape to mask out areas. The kids certainly came up with some interesting head shapes!!

This afternoon, we explored the use of tissue paper to add colour to a drawing. With Autumn upon us, trees seemed a good idea. The first thing to do was create a nice tree silhouette on watercolour paper. We had some reference material, but the kids came up with some really funky creations of their own! Once these were blacked in with Sharpie it was time for the fun part.😜 We sprayed the paper to make it damp all over and added pieces of tissue paper. We had various colours with Autumn in mind. As the tissue layers covered the paper, more water was added to ensure the dye leached out and combined with others to make interesting blends in the paper. After they have been left to dry naturally the tissue is removed and the colours remain. Random and beautiful results! The kids loved creating the wierd trees and seeing the colours merge and of course, spray guns added some fun too! 🤣☔ Final pics to follow..
