Established in 2003, Luke Irwin specialises in the design and manufacture of hand-knotted custom made rugs. The driving principle behind Luke Irwin is to offer each customer complete control over their own rug. With choices to be made for the size, colour, weave, textile and design ensuring that every client receives a truly bespoke and personal service. We believe the importance of a rug in any given space is often greatly underestimated; a good rug can be the cornerstone or foundation on which all the disparate elements and personality within a room are bound together. In such cases the rug should almost be the last thing you notice on entering a room, silently providing a basis for the harmony of a scheme. There are also many areas where a rug can be used as a stand-alone feature and this can generally be achieved through a bold use of pattern and colour. As each of our rugs is individually hand made to order we are able to offer our portfolio of designs illustrated in this website in a huge range of colours in both wool and silk or a blend of the two. We also offer a fully bespoke service and accept client’s commissions for completely unique designs. Our rugs are hand knotted using traditional methods in the foothills of the Himalayas overlooking the Kathmandu Valley in Nepal and in Jaipur, the pink city of Rajasthan, India. Each stage in the manufacture of our rugs is carried out completely by hand by highly skilled craftsmen; from the drafting to the carding, weaving, washing and hand finishing. No child labour is used in the manufacture of any of our rugs. We donate a sum from every square metre ordered towards an educational fund for the children of the weavers in India and Nepal. This is undertaken by us and not passed on to the client as we feel we have a responsibility to the wellbeing of the weavers and our clients may well have other causes they would prefer to donate to. We also support a UK based charity called Beanstalk. Beanstalk is a national literacy charity that recruits, vets, trains and supports volunteers to work in primary schools with children who have fallen behind with their reading. Lead times for a standard size of rug will vary depending on the season but generally range from 16 to 20 weeks.
