Stoke Newington House

A gradual unfolding

The ground floor reads as a continuous space from front door to garden, with built-in oak storage lining the route and keeping movement clear. A subtle level change marks the transition from the contemporary extension back to the original Victorian reception room — bay window, ceiling rose and all. Light draws you through; the house reveals itself as you move.

Light where it counts

In compact Victorian houses, daylight is both scarce and highly prized — shaping the way spaces are imagined and resolved. Rather than defaulting to small, isolated rooflights, a full structural glass roof is thoughtfully designed to bring generous daylight deep into the centre of the plan.

The kitchen sits lower in the house, naturally protected from overlooking and overheating by tall garden walls, while remaining bright, calm and directly connected to the garden through fully retractable glazing. The result is both striking and resolved — where careful effort is felt rather than seen.

Stoke Newington House

The garden drawn inside

Full-width glazing retracts completely, reconnecting the kitchen with the garden. When open, the clay render continues inside, softening the threshold and allowing the architecture to extend beyond the envelope. Exposed joists and a restrained material palette create a space that feels calm, durable and quietly grounded rather than styled.

Stoke Newington House

A place for books, things and time

Floor-to-ceiling oak shelving conceived as a place for display rather than storage alone. Designed to be occupied, inhabited and personalised over time, the library is intended to gather patina and memory, feeling collected and lived-in rather than composed. A quiet backdrop to daily life — tactile, personal and enduring.

East Dulwich House

Soft light at the heart of the home

The kitchen is conceived as a generous, light-filled setting for daily life. Dispersed daylight from above settles gently across the space, softening surfaces and giving the room a quiet, balanced presence.
Light - central to every design decision - is carefully moderated through a series of glass roof fins, responding to the south-facing aspect. Material, proportion and daylight work together to create a space that feels calm, enduring and effortless.

The constraints of the existing structure are absorbed into the architecture, resolved with clarity and care rather than compromise.

Daylight as a daily ritual

The family bathroom is rooflit and centred around a curved double vanity, designed for ease of daily use. On a tight, overlooked site, daylight is drawn in from above, filling the room while preserving privacy.

Soft tones, timber joinery and brass fittings create a relaxed, tactile atmosphere. The curved vanity maximises space without feeling forced, bringing a sense of generosity to a compact room. A quiet, light-filled space designed for unhurried mornings and slow evenings.

Stoke Newington House

Calm above the rooftops

The original upside-down layout offered space, but never where it mattered. Reordering the plan returned bedrooms to quieter corners of the house, while the new loft addition creates a peaceful primary suite tucked above the surrounding rooftops.

An aperture into the ensuite draws the eye outward, framing sunrise views across London. Evening light arrives from the opposite side, giving the room a gentle, all-day glow. Warm tones, soft light and a generous reading nook make this a place to slow down and unwind.

A room shaped by light, views and simple details — designed for everyday calm and comfort.

Stoke Newington House

Where constraint becomes craft

On a tight site with a public drain line beneath, every millimetre of height mattered. A polished structural slab and exposed timber joists recover crucial headroom while bringing warmth, texture and a sense of the home's making.

A gradual step between kitchen and dining — once a technical obstacle — becomes a defining feature. The elevated island anchors the room and turns a necessity into a moment of character, drawing people together and giving the space its centre of gravity.

A calm, honest interior shaped by thoughtful decisions and architectural clarity.

Stoke Newington House

Bringing everyday life back to the garden

A dark, disconnected Victorian terrace becomes a calm, practical home. Once
an upside-down layout with low ceilings and little flow, the home is
reworked around a generous kitchen–dining space at the garden level.

On a tight site where millimetres matter, a polished structural slab and exposed
joists do the hard work of recovering headroom while keeping the palette
warm and tactile. Slim bifolds maintain continuity of materials from inside
to out, making the most of the London sunlight.

London Fields House

An extension rooted in its context

Reclaimed London stock bricks and measured, curated openings allow the new extension to settle naturally into its Victorian setting. Discreet glazing introduces light into what was once a dark kitchen while maintaining a sense of privacy from the garden.

At dusk, warm light softens the simplicity of the materials. The addition sits quietly within its historic context - contemporary, but never imposing.

London Fields House

Working with heritage

Sensitive interventions that preserve and enhance existing character.

At the street, familiar proportions and materials are retained — the
presence of the historic building is kept intact. Beyond the façade, the
architecture becomes more transformative: introducing light, flow and
additional space through contemporary extensions.

The contrast between old and new enriches the lived experience of the home.
By responding carefully to each client’s brief and the heritage of the
neighbourhood, the work remains both timeless and thoughtfully considered.

Abney Park House – Concept Design

Robust structure paired with a warm, tactile interior language.

The exposed in-situ concrete frame forms the primary architectural gesture, expressed both inside and out. Its monumentality is softened by the warm tones of timber, which wrap the kitchen island, shape the beams, and define the furniture. Together, the materials create a balance between architectural rigour and everyday livability.

This honest, pared-back approach allows the architecture to feel both coherent and purposeful — a clarity of structure responding intelligently to a tight central London site.

Currently in development ahead of planning submission.
