For the past four years, I’ve taken a trip with my parents to a different city — and this year it was beautiful Budapest 🇭🇺

My camera roll is now basically a collection of intricately painted ceilings, colourful roof tiles, and charming streets that looked straight out of a Wes Anderson film.

We completely fell for this vibrant city — rich in history, full of stunning architecture, incredible food, and some of the friendliest people.

1 & 2. Matthias Church at Buda Castle, famous for its roof covered in almost 150,000 colourful ceramic tiles made by the renowned Hungarian Porcelain factory

3 & 4. Golden hour cruising along the Danube

4. Ornate ceilings inside the Hungarian Parliament Building

5. One of the many beautifully painted buildings in Buda

6. The breathtaking Moorish-style ceiling inside Dohány Street Synagogue, the largest synagogue in Europe

7. Riverside cocktails as the sun went down

8 & 9. Exploring Hungarian folklore and crafts after dinner

10. A cardamom bullar from at one of the best pastries I’ve ever eaten

11. Who knew the Rubik's Cube was invented in Budapest?

12. Ending the trip with lunch surrounded by its lush greenery

Here are a few examples of how we’ve balanced investment pieces with more considered savings across our projects:

1: Marylebone pied-à-terre
Storage and comfort were key, so we invested in well-designed joinery and a fully bespoke sofa, while saving on side tables.

2. Dulwich bedroom
Our client wanted a true sanctuary. We prioritised these sheer curtains for privacy, layered behind blackout curtains by .interiors in beautiful hand-printed linen. We saved by sourcing French antique bedside tables from .antiques .

3. Barbican living room
We invested in a bespoke sofa and a customised armchair in fabric, alongside statement joinery by . We balanced this with more affordable pieces from and .

4. Abbeville Village
We splurged on a stunning sofa and chaise, and paired these with savings on a mirror and an antique side table.

A thoughtful mix of high and low is often what makes a scheme feel truly layered and personal.

Such a joy to see fellow West Londoner Marte Armitage’s work being celebrated with an exhibition at my local park

Her hand-drawn, hand-cut designs have quietly shaped interiors for over six decades. Remarkably, at nearly 96 years old, she’s still printing her patterns using the same painstaking linocut process she began in the 1960s.

We will certainly be using these delightful hand printed artisanal wallpapers and fabrics in our schemes. Can't wait for the print making demonstration on 7th May 🌿

Opened at the weekend and on until 19th July — would thoroughly recommend a visit.

Kraków is the latest addition to the Otta Design weekend-away guide! ✨
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Once Poland’s royal capital and now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this city is full of history, beauty, and incredible energy. From the stunning medieval Old Town to Kazimierz — the historic Jewish Quarter — with its eclectic charm, synagogues, and vibrant food scene, every corner has a story to tell.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We also stepped beyond the city to visit Auschwitz-Birkenau — a deeply moving and sobering reminder of the past — before ending our trip 130 metres underground in the breathtaking Wieliczka Salt Mine, where vast chambers, chapels, lakes, and intricate sculptures are all carved entirely from salt.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A weekend that was as thought-provoking as it was unforgettable. 🇵🇱

Wallpaper is so versatile, adding colour, texture and personality to a space. Small print, large print, fabric or vinyl, the options are endless. It is not just limited to the walls, we wall paper ceilings, wardrobe doors - where is the most unusual place you have wallpapered?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Swipe to see some of our favourite wallpaper installations:
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
1 - In one of our Hampshire projects our client wanted to inject a bit of fun in one of the downstairs loos. This wallpaper definitely mixes things up!
2 - In the snug in another country house project this small print wallpaper is wrapped on the walls and ceiling enveloping the space and hiding the low sloping ceilings.
3 - Fabric walling softens a space and is a great way of dampening the sound. This blue linen fabric backed wallpaper from creates a sophisticated backdrop to to art and antiques.
4 - Using a vinyl wallpaper in bathrooms is a practical way to add pattern as it is wipeable and won’t be damaged by the humidity from an overenthusiastic showerer. This is one of our favourites from
5 - Textured vinyl wallpapers are practical and stop a room feeling flat - in our Barbican project this sits very comfortably with the mid century vibe.
6 - Grasscloth panels from elevate these bespoke wardrobe doors.

We’re both heading off on ski trips this year, though sadly not to chalets quite as fabulous as these. The designers have steered clear of the typical “chalet style” clichés, instead creating beautifully layered interiors that would tempt anyone off the slopes early.

There’s something so special about working with returning clients.

We first transformed the ground floor of this Wandsworth Common Victorian townhouse in 2022, followed by the master suite in 2023 and their son’s room in 2024 — and now we’re excited to be designing their daughter’s bedroom and bathroom.

Watching a home evolve alongside a family is a real privilege, and we’re so grateful for the continued trust they place in us 💚

Scroll across for highlights from the journey so far, plus our scheme for their daughter’s room.
