We manufactured and installed these bespoke double glazed sash windows as part of a full renovation, carefully restoring the original box sash style while upgrading the performance for modern living.

Each window was hand finished and painted to suit the character of the property, keeping all the traditional charm while improving insulation, comfort and longevity.

The arched designs and fine detailing make these a real feature of the home — classic craftsmanship with a clean, timeless finish.

The first image shows a timber sash window supplied for a conservation area property that was manufactured aboard. It had been measured too small, leaving oversized margins around the frame and losing the balanced proportions you’d expect to see on a traditional sash window. The applied stick-on glazing bars only made it look even less in keeping with the property.

The replacement timber sash windows were manufactured in London and installed by Barnsbury Joinery, made specifically for the opening and designed to suit the age and character of the building properly.

- No stick-on bars.
- Like for like glazing bars.
- Slimline double-glazed units.
- Hand painted finish.

The result is a window that looks far more natural to the property, with slimmer sightlines, better proportions and a much more authentic traditional appearance — while still offering modern performance.

In conservation work, getting the small details right is what makes the biggest difference.

A small detail that makes a big difference in a conservation area.

The first window (before) had been brought in from abroad and, while timber, it simply didn’t sit right with the building. The glazing bars were too chunky, the proportions were off, and it lacked the refinement you expect to see on a property within a conservation area.

We’ve now replaced it with a handmade heritage timber sash window, built to suit the character of the house:

• 22mm solid glazing bars for more accurate sightlines
• 12mm slimline double glazing to balance performance with appearance
• Carefully hand-painted finish
• Crafted in keeping with traditional methods and proportions

The result is something that feels like it belongs—respecting the original style while quietly improving comfort and efficiency.

In conservation areas, it’s these details that matter. If you’re restoring a period property, it’s always worth taking the time to get the specification right.

Looking out through newly installed double glazed sash windows, set within carefully restored original box frames.

From the street, nothing has changed — the proportions, the detailing, the character all remain. Inside, it’s a different story: warmer, quieter, and built for modern living.

A respectful upgrade for a London listed home, where every detail matters.

Survey day at one of Knightsbridge’s historic landmarks

We’re at Wellington Court, 116 Knightsbridge — a Grade II listed mansion block overlooking Hyde Park. Built in the late 19th / early 20th century, it marks the transition from grand townhouses to luxury apartments, with original timber sash windows still defining its character.

Our focus is simple:
Preserve what matters. Improve what we can.

From assessing timber condition to ensuring smooth operation and better performance, every detail is approached with heritage in mind.
