We’re very excited to be starting another course for new mummies who want to learn to sew or to improve on their existing skills. In our final instalment of looking at our teacher’s recent creations, it’s my (Gen) turn. I have been enjoying learning to make sourdough (very late to the party), making cushions for my son’s friend, getting my hands dirty in the garden planting out veggies, losing my temper with rubbish instructions for some new trousers but loving the fabric from Ray Stitch, exploring working with leather, playing with the different functions on my overlocker by hemming beautiful double gauze for baby muslins and some TV fodder knitting. I feel so lucky to be working in a creative field and being able to spend every spare second doing the same.

Have you ever wondered what we teachers get up to when we are not teaching sewing?? Well, our hands aren’t still for long…did you know the definition of “handy” is not only useful but it also describes someone who is talented with their hands? First up is Ray who teaches our adults. She has been busy repurposing some discarded doors and sewn a curtain from vintage Ikea fabric to remodel her boiler cupboard. Hasn’t she done a great job?

Our young stitchers made some lovely Mothers’ Day pictures yesterday. I love how they enjoy sitting in a group on the floor cutting out fabric - we do, of course, have tables and chairs for everyone but they prefer it this way 🤗. 2025 was a wonderful year full of change and new adventures for Nest sewing school. The one constant for me was crafting. Making grounds me and sharing those skills with others brings me great joy. Here’s to another year of making, learning and sharing.
